I’m sure this has topic has been done before, I was just thinking the other day about all of the things I would change about how past ceremonies have gone down. And looking ahead to this years nominations I fear several great movies and performances may be snubbed for lesser ones. Here’s my personal list of snubs and inaccuracies, keep in mind I haven’t been following the awards season for very long

    -THE AMY ADAMS SNUB!

-Moonlight frauding its way into adapted screenplay with a whole slew of nominations in original. Arrival deserved that adapted screenplay oscar. To turn the short story it’s based on into a fully fleshed movie was a work of genius

-Rosamund Pike should have won for Gone Girl over Julianne Moore. And Gone Girl as a whole was snubbed that year across the board. An adapted screenplay nom for Gillian Flynn at the very least on top of best actress

-Emma Stone played herself in La La Land, she was heaps better in the criminally underrated Battle of the Sexes. Huppert or Portman were robbed

-Zhang Ziyi should have taken Judi Dench’s spot in the Best Actress category for Memoirs of a Geisha at the 2006 Oscars

-Mila Kunis in black swan deserved a supporting actress nom

-This one’s on the awards campaign team… Jacob Tremblay should have been placed in Lead Actor for Room, he’s more of a lead than Brie Larson. If he’s correctly placed in Lead, he easily gets in over Cranston in Trumbo. Category confusion caused that awful snub.

-Kate Winslet should have a second oscar for Steve Jobs. Vikander would have been a deserving Lead Actress nominee, but had no business in supporting for The Danish Girl

-Janelle Monae should have been nominated in supporting actress last year for Hidden Figures over Octavia Spencer. And Taraji P. Henson was criminally underlooked last year

-Viola Davis in The Help > Meryl Streep in The Iron Lady. We should already have another black lead actress winner

Feel free to add onto mine or comment with your own. We all have different likes when it comes to film, everyone’s preferences will no doubt differ. Maybe Streep in Florence Foster Jenkins was the second coming of Christ for you, who knows. Point is, we won’t all agree. But the discussing is the fun part.

Totally agree that Henson should’ve been nominated over Streep or Stone. I would’ve even liked to see her win, personally, though I still haven’t seen Elle.

Also agree that Davis should’ve won for The Help. Doubt should’ve been Streep’s third, not The Iron Lady.

Then if Davis had one for The Help, Naomie Harris could’ve won for Moonlight last year. That’s just my preference, though. Davis was also great in Fences.

If anyone should’ve won over Moore it was Cotillard, though I’m perfectly fine with Moore winning. Still Alice was a worthy role.

And if anyone should’ve won over Streep for the Iron Lady it was Dunst for Melancholia. The Help is one of the most overhyped movies ever. It’s remarkably mediocre. Hidden Figures too, though to a slightly lesser degree. Henson wasn’t overlooked at all.

Memoirs of the Geisha is an all around offensive movie. Those who love it should check out how offended the Japanese were by this film.
