Of the Academy’s nominees, I like “Room at the Top,” Billy Wilder, Laurence Harvey, Simone Signoret, Arthur O’Connell and the incredible Juanita Moore.

I have a heavy, positive bias towards Some Came Running, and Shirley MacLaine. Her character has been done many many times, but none do it like Shirley.

Cat on a Hot Tin Roof is sublime. That’s an Ensemble win.

Also a huge fan of The Defiant Ones. Gripping.

I’ll give props to Hitchcock for Vertigo, but not so much the actors.

Susan Hayward is terrific in I Want to Live! But, it’s an extremely painful watch. Once is enough.

Some Came Running is one of my favorite guilty pleasures. I simply cannot walk past the film and not stop to watch. You are correct. I find something electric in Shirley MacLaine’s performance. Ginny is a doomed character who haunts me.
