This is another alternative nominee topic. I went with in my opinion, the greatest year for best actress worthy performances. 1995 had many great performances that missed out on nominations. Here are my choices. Who would you choose?

Yes too! For Julianne Moore. She was great in that and it was a cool movie.

Kidman is excellent too. I didn’t really appreciate that film until recently. It really was prophetic about “being nobody unless you are on TV” and Kidman is actually quite funny in it. Just the way she walks and giggles as she is brought to her “end” is great comic acting.

I’d have booted Thompson for Bates. Leigh is phenomenal too, though!

Would replace Streep with Stone. Sharron Stone being an Oscar nominee is for the culture.

I thought Streep was the most deserving of the nominees. I do believe Bates and Owens gave the best performances for that year personally.

Stone had the loudest performance, and her globe win made her a shoe in nominee unfortunately. hahaha

You guys are underrating Susan Sarandon in Dead Man Walking, it may not be the most interesting female character that year, but god, I felt her pain.

    Nominees:
    Julie Delpy – Before Sunrise
Nicole Kidman – To Die For
Susan Sarandon – Dead Man Walking
    Sharon Stone – Casino
Meryl Streep – The Bridges of Madison County

I throw Stone into the supporting category. Some may call that fraud, but I’m fine with her there. Lead is just too strong and she definitely does deserve a nomination somewhere.

(Plus, I’d probably even nominate her in an otherwise boring 1992 lead actress lineup for Basic Instinct so she gets more from me anyway)

Had she gone supporting she would have swept the season.
