And where do you think “Arrival” fits in? I liked or loved all of her Oscar nominated roles (I like her in just about everything), but here’s how I’d rank them, with “Arrival” included (presuming she gets in for it, though that’s not 100% guaranteed).

    1. Junebug
    2. Arrival
    3. The Master
    4. American Hustle
    5. Doubt
    6. The Fighter

I might even rank her Arrival performance as her best, but I’d have to watch it again to be sure. I’ve had her in and out of my predictions; at the moment she’s out because I have Bening, Huppert and Streep.

    1) Junebug
    2) Doubt
    3) The Master
    4) The Fighter
    5) Arrival (I prefer subtlety but she is almost too subdued in the film. I was straining to even make out her dialogue.)
    6) American Hustle

I need to rewatch Junebug but Arribal is my second favorite performance from her (After Enchanted)

    1. “Junebug” (undisputed #1 choice; in another year, I think she could have won outright or without Rachel Weisz being around then)
    2. “The Fighter” (completely held her own in this standout ensemble; no “coattail” nomination here)
    3. “The Master” (adore this film; kudos to Adams for taking on her darkest role to date and nailing it)
    4. “American Hustle” (totally came around on her performance and can at least admire the film in a way I didn’t when it was originally released)
    5. “Doubt” (tricky character on the page that I don’t think she quite delivered in, but John Patrick Shanley directed her ever so poorly, so little to be done there)

***Adams’ pending Oscar nomination for “Arrival” will likely rank either above or below “American Hustle.”***

Going on her five nominations thus far:

    1. Junebug
    2. The Fighter
    3. The Master
    4. Doubt
    5. American Hustle

Numbers 3-5 I could have done without.

    1. Junebug: she deserved to win.

    2. The Fighter: the whole movie was just fun whenever it turned to her, the sisters, Melissa Leo vs her, and she did do a great job elsewhere in the film. Very deserved.

    3. American Hustle: haven’t read the whole thread, but I will once again laugh if I see the ridiculous “weak accent” comment that was so popular back then, a time when people were either choosing to forget it was a fake accent, or were that stupid.

    4. The Master: excellent film, don’t know if I would’ve nominated her (Hoffman should’ve won).

    5. Doubt: I think her role fit perfectly with her Amy Adams-ness, her sad eyes, her sad expression were very much on brand with Adams, so it never seemed like a stretch to me. Seemed like a repeat of Junebug at times. But it was a nice sweet performance and it’s obvious that it was one of those situations when names keep repeating themselves during the race and people just settle on those few actors don’t bother to look anywhere else. See Robert Duvall (The Judge), Alan Arkin (Argo) and many more…

If she gets in for Arrival, it would be my Number 2 or 3 choice.

Should’ve/Could’ve been nominated for Enchanted. Loved her in Nocturnal Animals.
