So I’ve just found out that the official UK release date for Son of Saul is not until April 1st 2016 which, in a word, sucks. I’d love to be able to see it before or during the main awards season but unfortunately the only advance screenings I can find are the sold-out LFF screenings which I wouldn’t have been able to go to anyway. I expect this post to dwindle into obscurity, but if anyone has any news of some special screening for Son of Saul happening in the UK in the next few months I’d greatly appreciate it.
I simply can’t work out why the UK distributor is releasing it so late when it has so much buzz running into awards season. Don’t they want it to be eligible for BAFTA?
I have the exact same FOMO with this film! I don’t get why they aren’t releasing it within the BAFTA eligibility period – it would be a shoo-in to win, surely?
I feel like I may have to rely on some form of online viewing (perfectly legally, of course *gulp*) to watch this in time for BAFTA/Oscars.
Here’s hoping it premieres at some kind of close festival.
There is a British Jewish Film Festival due to start and Son of Saul is in the line-up. Here is a link: ukjewishfilm.org
Thanks Aunt Peg! If all goes well I’ll be seeing it on the 14th November!
Lucky I saw this, I’ve been really busy over the last couple of days so I almost missed it!
There’s another place people in the UK can see this! It is screening as part of the Leeds Film Festival. Times are this Sunday (8th November) and on Wednesday 11th November.
Full information regarding the festival, and which other films you can catch there, can be found on their website: http://www.leedsfilm.com
