Things on the Comedy/Musical side don’t always go as predicted. One thing we do know is with Ricky Gervais and his tendency to go mean it might be a good idea for the HFPA to add a little sugar to the spice he’ll no doubt provide. Both Fey and Poehler are both Globe winners so it’s not out of the question that one of them could sneak into Best Actress. Only three spots seem like with Lawerence, Tomlin, and Schumer likely nominees. Currently predicted is Smith and Streep but those don’t seem like sure things. I could also make a case that they could snub Schumer. So could Tina Fey or Amy Poehler sneak into Best Actress and who’s the more likely to do so. My money would be on Fey since she’s a two time winner. What about the movie we’ve seen surprises in this category in the past so could Sisters sneak in. Also in my never ending quest, Academy Awards produces you finally have the perfect reason to invite Poehler to the ceremony and we all know she nails every Awards Ceremony appearance!

Time will tell. Although I think that if there is anyone we might really be underestimating, it’s Anne Hathaway for The Intern. Not only has the film done very nicely (almost $200m worldwide), but Nancy Meyers has a good track record with her leading men/women (Mel Gibson for What Women Want, Diane Keaton/Jack Nicholson for Something’s Gotta Give, Meryl Streep for It’s Complicated). I’d also keep a sharp eye on Naomi Watts for While We’re Young. Noah Baumbach has done nicely with his leading ladies (Greta Gerwig and Laura Linney) and Watts is in a roll with BP-winning Birdman, St. Vincent, b.o. success with Divergent series, and now While We’re Young.

No matter what happens, though, both actress categories look relievingly competitive.

It can happen I just don’t know who they bump out. I’m still having a tought time bumping out Blythe Danner with Lawrence’s foot in the race now. I think for Nancy Meyers’ touch, DeNiro will take that slot for The Intern. In a weaker year, Hathaway could make it in but not this year. Same could be said with Ben Stiller in While We’re Young. He could make it in with Baumbach’s touch but Watts seems to be one that can’t make it in. But you have to remember that Gervais has never been nominated for movie Globes. Just because you host doesn’t guarantee noms.

I’ve only read HitFix review and they weren’t too kind to “Sisters”.

And yes, I think Schumer is in danger. They never seem to get around real comedies, especially for women, at least in the last past seasons. They didn’t recognize Melissa McCarthy nor Sandra Bullock for “The Heat” which was a comedy hit in the summer, just like “Trainwreck”. I have a feeling Melissa McCarthy will be forgotten again for “Spy”, so I’m quite sure they will go for Streep, Lawrence, Smith and Tomlin. I agree the fifth slot could be for Watts.

I would love to see Fey and Poehler as nominees but I don’t see it 100% to be true.

I am currently predicting Lawrence, Schumer, Fey, Poehler and Streep, as well as Sisters in comedy.

I’d be considering this, I just don’t know who they’d drop. Unfortunately, Streep is a rubber-stamp nominee. Smith seems like a good bet. And Lawrence, Schumer and Tomlin seem like good bets. But just IMAGINE how fun a Lawrence, Schumer, Fey, Poehler and Tomlin lineup would be.

Why do you all think that Lily Tomlin is such a sure thing?  The Hollywood Foreign Press is not a guild or academy where she has served on the board or anything.  The Globes have not nominated her individually in thirty years!  Will Sony not push Maggie Smith in The Lady in the Van with its plum release date over summer’s $7 million-grossing Grandma?

Maggie Smith will undoubtedly be a huge competitor in Best Actress – Comedy or Musical at the Globes… If Joy goes Comedy, it will most likely be Lawrence, Schumer, Smith, Tomlin and probably Streep.

Meryl is in. The only way for her to be snubbed was to give her the Cecil B. DeMille. So…

I think it’s cause she’s in the spotlight for Grace & Frankie, which could make her a double nominee this year.

Tina and Amy aren’t Golden Globe favorites. Meryl Streep is a Golden Globe favorite. Tina has one Globe and Amy has another.
