Being a Brit I obviously look forward to BAFTA and one of the main reasons is the host Stephen Fry.

Over recent years he for me has excelled in how film awards can be a fun and entertaining evening by not taking it all too seriously but also keeping the TV audience and film stars at ease. There is never a bad taste left with jokes but also there is a sense of fun, indulgence and understanding of making everyone feel comfortable but never bored. Unlike Jonathan Ross whose efforts in the past were uncomfortable and cringeweorthy at best.

Of course it helps that SF has worked in the industry directing, writing and indeed acting. His opening speech in 2012 was great getting Brad pitt blow a kiss down the screen to the audience. His playfulness I assume makes hin endearing and there is never a thought that he does not do justice to the ceremony.

So i will for one will be looking forward to an entertaining evening hope that all Gold Derby members enjoy the sophisticated witt and charm of Mr Stephen Fry.

I can’t stand Stephen Fry as a host.

    He’s smug and completely unfunny.

    The Baftas are so dull.

If Stephen were a chocolate bar, he could be a Fry’s Chocolate cream…smooth, subtle and with a pleasant aftertaste.

If Johnathan were a chocolate bar, he could be a Dime / Daim bar…nutty, crunching and with a marmite reaction from the collective tastebuds.

What I do prefer about Johnathan is that he is a bona fide film buff and comic book lover. I still remember yonks back watching his Incredibly Strange Film Show, and in particular an episode were he shared his love of Jackie Chan films. On another series, I remember enjoying his excitement at getting to meet Steve Ditko.

I think he’s at his very best and in his element riffing with and against Alan Davies on QI. His logophilia works a necessary treat on those series. And Alan Davies, Jimmy Carr and Lee Mack etc help keep him grounded.

I LOVE Stephen Fry and I’m so looking forward to this. Thank God, they didn’t use Wossy this year – he is always such an embarrassment.

The worst thing for us about living in the States now is missing our TV programmes and that we can’t get Q.I. and Have I Got News for You. Feeling a bit homesick..

Agreed. I’ve always found him annoying.

Agree with you QI great. Not to mention black adder goes fourth!! I think he does a far better job than rossy hosting the ceremony.
