So Brie Larson is nominated for the BAFTA Rising Star award (the winner is voted for by the UK public for this category), as well as for the BAFTA Lead Actress. She is a lock for that Oscar nomination, we all know this.
IF she was to go on to win the Oscar….could she pull off some unlikely combinations mentioned below??
– What examples are there of actors/actresses winning an Oscar in a Lead category in the same year as winning the BAFTA Rising Star award?
– What other examples are there of actors/actresses winning a BAFTA Rising Star Award in the same year as winning a BAFTA Lead Acting award?
– Has anyone ever won an Oscar in a Lead category in the same year they won the BAFTA Rising Star award AND a BAFTA Lead Acting award?
Could Brie Larson be on course to make history here??
in 2008 i remember ellen page was nominated for rising star awards and leading actress, but didn’t win any of them for (juno)
I think most of the public didnt watch Room and Brie Larson is not British. She is not winning rising star. Star War is widely viewed by the public, so maybe John will win there
In answer to the three original questions:
Winning Oscar and Rising Star in the same year – never happened.
Winning Rising Star and BAFTA Lead in the same year – never happened
Winning Oscar, Rising Star and BAFTA Lead in the same year – never happened
In fact, of the 55 nominees for the BAFTA Rising Star Award we have had so far, 2 have gone on to win Oscars. Eddie Redmayne, nominated for Rising Star in 2012 but lost to Adam Deacon, won a BAFTA lead and Oscar in 2015. Lupita Nyong’o, nominated for Rising Star in 2014 but lost to Will Poulter, won her Oscar in the same year.
Emma Stone, Carey Mulligan, Jesse Eisenberg, Michael Fassbender, Ellen Page, Michelle Williams and Chiwetel Ejiofor have all been nominated at the Oscars and been nominated for the Rising Star Award.
So Brie Larson could make history, but she’d have to be in a stronger position to win the Rising Star Award. She is third at best, behind Egerton and Boyega – potentially fourth with Dakota Johnson being seen significantly more than Larson due to Fifty Shades of Grey.
