Barkhad Abdi will join Colin Firth and Gabourey Sibide in a new thriller, debuting at Cannes at present. I can’t attach any links for some reason… sorry about that.

Thrilling to see that two very definitions of what a character-actor is – Barkhad Abdi and Gabourey Sidibe – are capitalizing/have capitalized on their Oscar nominated debut film roles. Sidibe has found consistent work and I’m just waiting for her to headline a sitcom because she’s hilarious (The way she held her own opposite Laura Linney in The Big C still makes me laugh-out-loud). Fingers crossed Abdi gets more work as well.

Of course I’m always happy to see Colin Firth in anything; however, it seems everyone of his latest projects has Nicole Kidman in it (the current-released The Railway Man; the completed-but-yet-to-be-released Before I Go to Sleep; the animated Paddington; and the pre-production Genius). It’s not a negative, just an interesting observation. It’s not a new trend a la DiCaprio/Winslet, McConaughey/Hudson, Sandler/Barrymore, and now Firth/Kidman.

Terrific news. I recall how vociferously some insisted that Gabouri’s body was not conducive to her getting any more roles.

Well I guess in this case talent trumps body bias.

This should be an interesting movie just solely based on the stars.

Lol. Ok words. My hope is I’ll be able to actually see her in a mainstream film. I’m not sure why you find her obnoxious

His next film role is a Judd Apatow comedy film, posted about that in the “Barkhad Abdi is broke” thread. But great to hear that he’s getting even more work beyond that!

He’s actually booking more than Lupita. Which is especially telling how uninterested Hollywood is in non-white female talent. Fuck them. And the white girls they insist I like. Team Chastain. Death to Adams and Lawrence. Good night ladies and gentlemen Elvis has left the building.

Whaa? He has two roles lined up can we really say “he’s booking more”. And with Southpaw wouldn’t that give Lupita 3 (4 if shes actually in Star Wars 7).

And yes, “DEATH TO ADAMS” !!! Well not actually death just simmer down with the oscar noms for nothing performances.

So they’re saying. The Place That Hits The Sun

I guess we’ll see. Plus, always must cast a caucasian to star opposite him.

Lol how so, Pook? I was just acknowledging how some actors do more than one project together and sort of “get stuck” together. How I failed to include Hanks/Ryan is ridiculous. Granted, one of the two films McConaughey/Hudson did was just okay (How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days) while the other was an embarrassment (Fool’s Gold). With that said, Kate is an example of an actress that just makes terrible choices, but has potential to be great. She has two great performances in both Almost Famous and Nine (well, that one was a good performance). In JLaw’s role in American Hustle, she would have been stellar (and age-appropriate). Please don’t let me scare you. Ms. Hudson isn’t one of the great leading ladies of our time, but she has potential that she shows us, albeit rarely.
