The two supporting women of the two biggest comedy films of 2015, Spy and Trainwreck.
Both performances were very liked here, Rose Byrne is still being considered for a possible Oscar nomination, and has even won a critic award. Tilda Swinton didn’t receive the same support from awards, but gave a terrific performance.
Who was your favorite? Which bitch with a foreign accent gave the better performance? Would you nominate them for the Oscar? The Globe? Or maybe the Critics Choice?
Among the two, I’m going with Byrne, but I gotta tell you, Tilda is the only good thing in that overrated film called “Trainwreck”. I laughed my ass off on both. I would also add Miranda Hart for the list. The three of them were the funniest supporting ladies this year.
Oscar-wise? I’m supportive about the comedies, so yes, I would support any of them all the way through. And Spy in the other main categories as well.
Easy. Byrne! I loved Tilda Swinton as always, but Byrne is the definition of a supporting performance. Even towards the second half where she appeared more, whenever she’d leave the screen, I’d be like “Come back!”. I’m absolutely BAFFLED that she is not a frontrunner for Best Supporting Actress.
WTF? WTF? I didn’t know Tilda was in Trainwreck! I didn’t recognize her! I AM IN SHOCK!
But to be fair, as Film Guy mentioned, Rose had a typically strong supporting role and a well-written character, while Tilda had a cameo and a not so developed character. They both were amazing, though.
Rose Bryne was amazing in Spy , McCarthy too !!
Haven’t seen trainwreck though.
To me, Tilda is basically the best living actor out there. But, technically, Rose might be a little more proficient in accent work. But I also think accents are so overrated in evaluating acting, Meryl Streep herself once said that being complimented on her accents is like being complimented for her feet (like, not entirely unimportant but so overstated).
