Peter Finch destroyed everyone in my opinion. Well deserved Oscar and its sad her died before he could receive his award.

Peter Finch was, of course, amazing, but I was always more taken with William Holden’s performance which is also more of a lead.

    MY NOMINEES
    William Holden, Network
    Robert De Niro, Taxi Driver
    Peter Finch, Network
Robert Redford, All the President’s Men
    Sylvester Stallone, Rocky

My choice would be Robert De Niro in “Taxi Driver”. I am thinking De Niro placed second in the voting.

I doubt that actually. Taxi Driver was highly controversial at the time, hence its lack of directing, writing and cinematography nominations, all of which it would have clearly deserved. I expect Stallone was runner-up as he was the lead in the Best Picture winner and was playing a popular iconic movie character. De Niro would get my vote, however, excluding Giannini in Seven Beauties which I haven’t seen (fun fact: this film was the first to get a female director, Lina Wertmüller, nominated for Best Director).

    Holden

I suspect Stallone was actually runner-up to Finch.
