This would’ve been a perfect line up without Gwyneth Paltrow. She wasn’t terrible at all but this was the Academy, once again, going with the flavor of the month.March 24, 2016 at 9:36 am #601023
Who would you have replaced her with?March 24, 2016 at 12:00 pm #601061
Cameron Diaz for There’s Something About MaryMarch 24, 2016 at 12:16 pm #601068
Montenegro for sure, though Blanchett and Watson were strong too. Take out Paltrow and Streep for Holly Hunter (“Living Out Loud”) and Oprah Winfrey (“Beloved”).March 25, 2016 at 9:53 am #601551
BlanchettMarch 25, 2016 at 10:40 am #601565
MontenegroMarch 25, 2016 at 10:42 am #601566
I actually think this is one of Streep’s most underappreciated performances ever, but I would still go with Blanchett.March 25, 2016 at 12:33 pm #601596
I would go with Christina Ricci in the Opposite of Sex but she wasn’t nominated soooooooo… I take the Green Party vote and go with a heart wrenching Streep performanceMarch 25, 2016 at 12:40 pm #601597
I’d go with Streep.March 25, 2016 at 5:22 pm #601632
Blanchett then PaltrowMarch 25, 2016 at 7:09 pm #601646
Streep followed by Watson.March 28, 2016 at 4:15 am #601974
Since Blanchett is an acting juggernaut, I’m fine with Paltrow winning here.March 28, 2016 at 2:49 pm #602060
I have seen Montenegro’s performance couple of months ago and it was truly wonderful, but there is no doubt that legendary performance by Cate Blanchett should have been awarded. That performance and her portrayal of Elizabeth were beyond excellence and truly announced what kind of actress Blanchett will be. 17 years passed and Paltrow victory is still something that is negatively talked about. That most certainly says a lot.March 29, 2016 at 4:33 am #602173
I fucking love 1998 for this partuclar category! So many great contenders. More than 10 actresses who would have made a worthy winner. It’s such a fucking shame that in the end they went with Paltrow. Honestly they went with wrong it girl that year. If they wanted to go for the it girl Diaz in There’s Something About Mary was a perfct choice. The movie made absolute fortune $$$, had great reviews and Diaz got absolute raves. And she’s still a big movie star these days and where’s Gwyneth? Oh right, processing her shit into food or something else organic. Seriously. On some other movie forums there was a poll about this category, of course Blanchett won it by a landslide (duh!) but it was Diaz who came in second. Oh, Academy voters, when will you finally learn? I guess never.
As for this poll I went with Montenegro. Yeah Blanchett was awesome but I have a soft spot for foreign language old bitches.
