After I decided to ignore the “Ex Machina” buzz and predict Dame Vikander in supporting…

    1. Larson
    2. Ronan
    3. Blanchett
    4. Vikander (it seems that people didn’t buy this fraud)
    5. Rampling/Smith

I doubt Mara will be anywhere near him and other contenders simply have no buzz or acclaim to pull Oscar nom.

I just cannot stop thinking about “Ex Machina” being not baity for older voters. Such film never ever made the cut in other categories than Original Screenplay. I have very hard time to imagine that Vikander will manage a supporting nomination, then a leading one here. She’s a newcomer, I think they are going to reward her body of work with a supporting nomination for “The Danish Girl”. They are going with the fraud, because I don’t think that Vikander’s good, but not exactly Oscar-worthy performance in “Ex Machina” will be more than a critics favorite.

So the 4th & 5th spots are still open for a grab….why do I have a feeling that we are going to have at least one shocking nominee here? Like Silverman or Mirren?

Rampling, Ronan, Larson, Blanchett, and Vikander to make it.

    Basically this.

    After the top 3:
    Alicia Vikander (The Danish Girl)
    Charlotte Rampling

    Rooney Mara
    Maggie Smith
    Jennifer Lawrence

I’ve had hopes for Rooney to make in lead ever since I first saw Carol, but it seems like the general strength of the field, co-star competition and a lack of splitting with herself in supporting (unlike Alicia) should keep her pretty secure in supporting. It may be some consolation that she’ll be more likely to win in that case. I know she’s lead but it’s not my fault if voters are dumb enough to buy the supporting placement.

I don’t even understand the argument of Vikander being a double nominee and then “she’s surely winning in supporting.”. If Vikander is a double nominee, Rooney Mara or Kate Winslet will beat her ass in supporting….if she’s a supporting actress nominee for “The Dansh Girl”….that’s a different case…

    Larson
    Ronan
    Blanchett
    Smith
    Mara

Something odd will happen in this category compared to what we’ve seen so far, so I’m guessing it will be both Blanchett and Mara making it in for Carol, and Vikander being placed in Supporting for The Danish Girl.

Poor Rampling. Snubbed by BAFTA, by her own hometown!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    Cry

I still think Best Actress will give us a surprise. Mara is the likeliest thing I can think.

I’m sorry but Kate Winslet for Steve Jobs?! Winslet is a filler. Her film isn’t really that well-liked and her performance is completely average. She’s not winning for that. And if Vikander makes it into both leading ad supporting, she’s winning supporting. She’ll have too much media attention and two solid performances. Even if she only makes it into supporting (with Ex Machina) and Mara is in leading, she has more of a shot than Winslet. If both Mara and Vikander are in supporting, I guess Mara could be unbeatable.  But well, Mara deserves to be in leading. She’s the best thing about Carol and even more of a lead than Blanchett.

BAFTA are idiots. They’re way too earger to be a precursor.

BAFTA – get slated if they nominate a load of British actors and films. Get slated when they don’t nominate a load of British actors and films. Not hypocritical at all!
