Marion’s great performance will figure in another top about the best performances in movies about musicians.. “La Vie en Rose” isn’t the “typical” musical movie.

I don’t think being a non-singer affects every “musical” performance. I think Brosnan’s lack of singing talent added to his charm and Crowe’s magnetism overshadowed his less-than-dynamic pipes. Don’t know about anyone else, but I liked Walken better than Travolta in Hairspray! I especially love the Channing mention!

Bjork in Dancer in the Dark (2000) should be #1 in musicals this century and yes it is technically a musical

For a one song performance mention – Mabel King – The Wiz

Her performance of Don’t Nobody Bring Me Bad News brings down the house.

Mabel King is indeed fantastic but boy is The Wiz a dreadful, ugly film otherwise.

There’s kid of too many to list in my opinion. I might be here all day if I list all of them (It helps that I’m doing a movie musical podcast so I have really increased in my favorite movie musical performances list)
