Wes Anderson, The Grand Budapest Hotel
Alejandro Gonzalez Inarritu, Birdman
Richard Linklater, Boyhood
Bennett Miller, Foxcatcher
Morten Tyldum, The Imitation Game
I predicted four of five (I had Ava DuVernay and not Bennett Miller).
Relieved that Clint Eastwood isn’t nominated.
Only men need apply for this category.
Four first-time nominees, and one 2nd time nominee (Inarritu was nominated for Babel, 2006).
Thrilled that Morten Tyldum made it! His direction was SUPERB! Thrilled about Wes Anderson’s nomination, too!!!!
My order of preference:
1. Richard Linklater, Boyhood
2. Morten Tyldum, The Imitation Game
3. Wes Anderson, The Grand Budapest Hotel
4. Bennett Miller, Foxcatcher
5. Alejandro Gonzalez Inarritu, Birdman
I don’t know how Miller made it on this list? But my personal list would be probably Inarritu at number 1, Anderson at 2. Linklater at 3, Miller at 4, and Tyldum at 5.
shocked over Ava not being nominated. I have not seen the Grand Budapest Hotel yet but it must be something.
Miller was nominated for directing Capote
The Miller phenomenom gonna be a headscratcher for upcoming predictions. Weird.
Disappointed for Chazelle and DuVernay. I think both would be deserving and outstanding nominees.
Only Linkater/Iñarritu/Anderson were locks, but the last two spots really did feel like they would be between Eastwood, DuVernay, Tyldum and Marsh. I’m surprised Eastwood missed out considering his name and how American Sniper overperformed in the guilds and the actual nominations. Miller is a bit of a curious inclusion. Maybe the arthouse BD voters pushed it? He won Cannes, so it’s a possibility the film really appealed to that section of voters.
I didn’t think it was possible to have a lone director anymore. I honestly thought we would never see that happen again. This only makes future predictions more confusing.
Happy for Bennett Miller. That was a shocking nomination. Cannes win and then nothing else until now. Maybe voters realized he should’ve won for Moneyball and wanted to apologize for snubbing him.
I’m happy Miller got in but Tydum is just one head scratcher. Damien Chazelle and David Fincher deserved his spot. But we all know Linklater is taking this home
