The 90s were my first decade really getting into movies and watching the Oscars. What are some of your fav female performances you wish had gotten an Oscar nomination?

    Here are some of mine!

REBECCA DEMORNAY for THE HAND THAT ROCKS THE CRADLE. what a great performance, did she even get a campaign, you would have thought she would bc the movie was a huge cultural moment.

REESE WITHERSPOON for Election! What happened????

Kathy Bates in Dolores Claiborne. She is far better is this than Misery, character is much more developed.

ASHLEY JUDD for Ruby In Paradise. I think Ashley should have an oscar!!

KATHLEEN TURNER for Serial Mom. Such a great comedic performance.

    DEMI MOORE for Disclosure

WHOOPI GOLDBERG and MARY LOUIS PARKER for Boys on the Side

    RENEE RUSSO for Ransom

    Geena Davis for Angie

ELLEN BARKIN in This boy’s Life

I will definitely second the mention of Best Supporting Actress for Debbi Morgan for Eve’s Bayou. The winner Kim Basinger should have been left off the list.

Alicia Silverstone in Clueless. That performance was brilliant.

Michelle Pfeiffer in Batman Returns and The Deep End of the Ocean.

Christina Ricci in The Opposite of Sex, and Lisa Kudrow for Supporting in the same film.

Barbra Streisand in The Mirror Has Two Faces.

Halle Berry in Losing Isaiah. One of Halle’s better performances from her early career.

Emmanuelle Béart in La Belle Noiseuse (1991)

Pernilla August in The Best Intentions (1992) – she plays Ingmar Bergman’s mother and won at Cannes

The late Virna Lisi, playing Catherine de Midici in La Reine Margot (1994) – despite being a supporting role, she won at Cannes over lead actress Isabelle Adjani from the same film. Lisi is formidable in this role.

The late Susanne Lothar, shattering in Funny Games (1997), though I doubt most of the Academy could stomach this and, to be honest, I can’t blame them. (Lothar also would have deserved a supporting nom in 2009 for The White Ribbon, where she plays the mother of the boy with Down’s Syndrome)
