Silence getting only one nomination inspired me to start this thread.

One of fewer? Do you mean 1 or 0?

I assume we’re talking English language, since there’d be too many foreign films to name…

    Synecdoche, New York (2008) – 0 nominations

    Love Actually (2003) – 0 nominations

Not that I don’t enjoy it, but I’m curious what you wouldn’t nominated it for.

Emma Thompson, Bill Nighy, Screenplay, score.

Emma Thompson’s scene when the Joni Mitchell song is playing is heartbreaking and she doesn’t say a word.

This. This. This. Thompson and Nighy were outstanding.

    Some have already been said:

    Under the Skin
    Synecdoche, New York
    Before Sunset
    Before Sunrise
    Before Midnight
    Frances Ha

Also: it’s incredible and shameful that Inside Llewyn Davis got only two nominations.

OMG you’re so right about the Before trilogy!

    1 nomination
Les Enfants du Paradis (Original Screenplay)
    Wild Strawberries (Original Screenplay)
    The Conformist (Adapted Screenplay)
    Blue Velvet (Director)
    Breaking the Waves (Actress)
    Mulholland Drive (Director)

    0 nominations
    Bringing Up Baby
    His Girl Friday
    The Searchers
    The Shining
    The King of Comedy
Once Upon a Time in America
    Naked

I’ve avoided foreign-language films with zero nominations. The foreign screenplay nominees I’ve included seem all the more jarring with their exclusion elsewhere.

Don’t understand “One or fewer”, that would be zero and there are HUNDREDS of films that the Academy passed by completely so that seems like a different thread…

    Only one nomination:

Nocturnal Animals this year (for me Picture, Screenplay, Editing, Cinematogtaphy, Score)
Nightcrawler (at least Gyllenhaal, maybe Russo, Picture)
Moonrise Kingdom (Art Direction, Costume Design, Picture possibly)
Lars and the Real Girl (Gosling)
    Blue Valentine (Gosling)
Royal Tenenbaums (Hackman, Picture, Art Direction)
    Borat (Baron-Cohen)
    The Lego Movie (Animated Feature)
    Election (Reese Witherspoon)
Revolutionary Road (Winslet instead of The Reader for starters)
