This is always a hard category to predict early but I thought I’d start a discussion about the songs that may be in consideration for the Oscars and Golden Globes. I thought I’d start a bit of a master list on the first page and as people add to thoughts to the post I will try and keep the master list updated.

Updated with songs listed here and in the predictions centre (no I didn’t spell this incorrectly, I’m Australian :P)

    Current Contenders:
Basmati Blues (“Obey the Law of the Heart”)
Battle of the Sexes (“If I Dare”)
Beauty and the Beast (“Days in the Sun”)
    Beauty and the Beast (“Evermore”)
Beauty and the Beast (“How Does a Moment Last Forever”)
Call Me By Your Name (“Mystery of Love”)
Call Me By Your Name (“Visions of Gideon”)
Chasing Coral (“Tell Me How Long”)
    Coco (“Remember Me”)
Cries From Syria (“Prayers for This World”)
Despicable Me 3 (“There’s Something Special”)
    Detroit (“It Ain’t Far”)
    Ferdinand (“Home”)
Fifty Shades Darker (“I Don’t Wanna Live Forever”)
    The Greatest Showman (“Come Alive”)
The Greatest Showman (“This Is Me”)
Good Time (“The Pure and the Damned”)
An Inconvenient Sequel: Truth to Power (“Truth to Power”)
The LEGO Batman Movie (“Friends are Family”)
    Marshall (“Stand Up For Something”)
    Mudbound (“Mighty River”)
Murder on the Orient Express (“Never Forget”)
My Little Pony: The Movie (“Open Up Your Eyes”)
Only the Brave (“Hold the Light”)
    The Promise (“The Promise”)
Served Like a Girl (“Dancing Through the Wreckage”)
    The Star (“The Star”)
    Step (“Jump”)
    Wonder Woman (“To Be Human”)

Some of these might be long shots but shouldn’t be ruled out:

Call Me by Your Name (“Mystery of Love”)
Call Me by Your Name (“Visions of Gideon”)
Murder on the Orient Express (“Never Forget”)

yes I’m hoping sufjan stevens gets recognised for his music in call me by your name. I don’t think he’ll win but it would great if he was nominated.

I’ve heard “This Is Me” from The Greatest Showman is quite the show-stopper.

I don’t think the CMBYN songs are longshots. They’re acclaimed and in a Best Picture contender. A double threat.

I’d add “If I Dare” by Sara Bareilles from “Battle of the Sexes”. It’s a fantastic song and fits the film and its message very well. Plus, she’s quite respected in the industry (Grammy and Tony noms as well).

Also, the songs from “Patti Cake$” might have a small chance here even though the film kinda came and went.

This category was just added to the predictions center. We’re starting with 26 contenders but will likely add more.

I’d totally add “Un Poco Loco” and “Proud Corazón”, from Coco.

Although Evermore is the frontrunner of the two Beauty and the Beast songs, and I agree is the better song, I have a feeling Celine Dion’s name in front of How Does a Moment Last Forever will be irresistible to voters. So if only one song from that movie is going to get nominated I’m thinking it’s that one. If they’re lucky then both songs might get in.

Just heard “Mystery of Love” in full and I am totally broken. Like I wasn’t ready for that emotional punch to my face and now I’m interested in seeing CMBYN.

That has to be Pixar’s biggest mistake! Coco is a movie with a lot of opportunities in every category. That’s something I’m sure of.

I desperately want “Mystery of Love” to win.

    ——————————————

The Greatest Showman will probably land a nomination (“This Is Me”), but I can’t see it taking two slots without some box office success to back it up.

Call Me By Your Name is shaping up to be one of the most nominated films, and should definitely carry “Mystery of Love” to an easy nomination. A second nomination for “Visions of Gideon” is probably a longshot, but that might be a good thing as it reduces the risk of Stevens splitting votes with himself.

Disney appears to be contending for 3 slots with Coco’s “Remember Me” and Beauty and the Beast’s “Evermore” and “How Does A Moment Last Forever.” It seems highly unlikely that all three will be nominated, but it’s tough to say which one or two will be. “Remember Me” will be more current, and could find some commercial success; “Evermore” seems to be the favorite among predictors; “How Does A Moment Last Forever” offers the tantalizing promise of a Celine Dion performance.

I think Bareilles could get in with “If I Dare.” As someone mentioned, she’s well respected in the industry and she gave a nice performance at this year’s ceremony—which should help keep her on voters’ minds.

There was a report that Zayn/Swift’s “I Don’t Wanna Live Forever” would receive an Oscar push, but nothing seems to have manifested yet. I won’t rule a nom out completely, but it’s probably hovering in the 6-10 range as of now.

    1. This Is Me
    2. Mystery of Love
    3. Evermore
    4. Remember Me
    5. ?

No one is talking about “The Pure and the Damned” from Good Time? Jesus, this is astonishingly the perfect original song to close a film! Loved it!
