I think this has been done before, but I wanted to know some of your choices of which Best Picture winner you think would win in another year. Would Argo have won in 2011? I think yes.

P.S. Try to limit the range of years. For instance, Matching The Best Years of Our Lives with a contemporary winner seems unfair for a number of reasons.

It would all depend on the year–

Something like Argo or The Artist would obviously stand no chance against The Lord of the Rings: Return of the King and it is doubtful that something like Crash or The King’s Speech would have even been recognized in the year of No Country for Old Men vs. There Will Be Blood.

I think a lot of it depends on the year things are nominated.. some movies are either very ahead or behind in the times.

I think Lincoln would have stood a good chance at winning had it come out in 1996.  Historic epics and movies of that style were very popular around that time.  And some movies in the past that didn’t win and are now considered awful losses would have probably won had they come out later.

I think The Shawshank Redemption would easily get Best Pic in several years this past decade.

I think we shouldn’t only look at quality. The Oscars don’t. Take 2008 when Slumdog Millionaire won. It went on to be the jugernaut of awards season because it was seeen as a “global” film and it was uplifting without being controversial. In my mind, if the The Hurt Locker had come out that year, Slumdog still would have won.
