Spider-Man, John Carter and SW&TH being here are awful choices. CGI-fests aren’t that impressive when the films are terrible.

Looper deserved a spot here and I’m dissapointed it didn’t get one.

In addition to Flight, I am kinda surprised that The Impossible didn’t make it in. Also, it would have been cool to see something low budget with effective VFX like Chronicle to get shortlisted at least.
I am gonna bet on The Avengers, Cloud Atlas,The Hobbit, Life of Pi and Prometheus; though strictly going on merit, John Carter would deserve a nod regardless of how shitty the movie was.

I too predict the same 5 as you. I’m thinking ‘Cloud Atlas’ might get left off for ‘TDKR’ though, but I hope not. ‘Cloud Atlas’ deserves the nomination.

Whoever did the visual effects in Pi better start writing their acceptance speech.

I’m glad the category has expanded from 3 slots to 5.

    Life of Pi
    Cloud Atlas
    Hobbit
    Prometheus
    Skyfall

And the disrespecting of The Hunger Games starts here.  Yeah, Pi has its CGI tiger, but what else?  A clusterfuck of stuff thrown at the wall, hoping some of it sticks.

The Capitol scenes were the Hunger Games’ bread and butter VFX, as well as the Gamesmasters control room.  Impressively done.  Why reward failure like John Carter, the Heaven’s Gate of 2012?  Why not make Battleship a finalist while yer at it, Academy?
