UNIVERSAL CITY, Calif. — Oct. 14, 2013 — Golden Globe winner Tina Fey and Golden Globe nominee Amy Poehler (“Parks and Recreation”) have signed on to host NBC’s exclusive coverage of “The 71st Annual Golden Globe Awards,” which will be broadcast live on Sunday, Jan. 12, 2014 from 5-8 p.m. (PT) and 8-11 p.m. (ET) from the Beverly Hilton in Beverly Hills.

As part of their deal, Fey and Poehler will also host “The 72nd Annual Golden Globe Awards” in 2015.

The announcement was made today by Hollywood Foreign Press Association president Theo Kingma, dick clark productions and NBC.

“Tina and Amy are two of the most talented comedic writer/performers in our business and they were a major reason the Golden Globes was the most entertaining awards show of last season,” said Paul Telegdy, President, Alternative and Late Night Programming, NBC Entertainment. “We’re elated they wanted to host together again and that they committed for the next two years.”

“We are thrilled Amy and Tina have decided to return as hosts of the Golden Globe Awards for the next two years,” said Kingma. “Their return ensures that the Golden Globes will once again be the biggest, best and most entertaining awards celebration of the year.”

I love them, and I love that they’re doing this, but is anyone worried that it just might not be that great if they host for the next two years?  I’m not sure they’re going to be able to upstage theirselves.

Perhaps Amy Poehler will finally win Emmy in Special Class Program category. All she has to do is beat a perennial winner that is Tony Awards.
I look forward to seeing what they have in store. Making jokes about Gravity seems inevitable.

thedemonhog only likes dramedy ladies. If Edie falco was hosting as a junkie going through rehab, he’d love it.

I like this, but I know it’s unlikely to be as good or better than last year.

To be clear, Tina Fey and Amy Poehler sounded like a good set of co-hosts last year, but I found their hosting far too light-hearted without actually being funny.  I much prefer Ricky Gervais’s biting humour from years prior.  I would be fine if we were all to admit that Fey and Poehler are merely serviceable and competent as hosts, maybe like Neil Patrick Harris.  It is the assessment that they achieved greatness or that their shtick was inspired in any way that bothers me.

Good to see you two in the Oscars thread. I think Poehler and Fey did a pretty good (but not great) job last year. They were held back by their limited screentime, so I can’t really use it against them.

As for the soft humor compared to Gervais’ cutting sarcasm, I like to see celebs feel awkward and embarrassed, so I am partial to Ricky’s monologues. However, once he came back, it seemed like the Globes became a ‘let’s see what Ricky Gervais does next’ shock-like telecast, which really took away from the movies.

Granted, the Globes are trashy and ridiculous, but the awards should still be treated with respect. So, to make the Globes even better, I think Tina and Amy should be present throughout the show and not play with kiddy gloves anymore.

For those worrying that they won’t be able to top themselves, well, it’s only really the opening monologue and a few bits throughout the show. Coming up with good material should be no problem for them.

As for them being “soft” or “llghthearted”, they specifically said they didn’t want to be purposely “controversial” or mean. You’re looking at the wrong comedians if you’re expecting that. I do have to say, though, Amy’s joke about James Cameron was hilarious and made my jaw drop.
