It’s been more than a decade since this redhead nabbed a double nomination in 2002 for Lead Actress (Far From Heaven)
    and Supporting Actress (The Hours).

    Best Actress for Still Alice
I’ve seen Still Alice myself during TIFF and I can
honestly say this is the type of performance that could sweep awards season.
The reaction for this film especially Julianne’s heartbreaking performance is
incredible and phenomenal. So moving and natural yet there’s this quiet
    authenticity.
      I would be surprised if
she doesn’t pick up the statue for this juggernaut of a performance in her
    already illustrious career. Fingers-crossed!

Best Supporting Actress for Map To The Stars
During NYFF press junket, Cronenberg revealed that
his movie will screen for awards consideration. They’re going to do a
qualifying run in NY and LA, so that it will be legitimately qualify for the
Golden Globes and Oscars. Personally, she should campaign down supporting role
as the field is looking very weak even though she won at Cannes for Best
    Actress.

Imagine if she gets a double nomination at the
Globes and pull a Kate Winslet win in 2009.
    My gut prediction

    Golden Globes 2015

Best Actress in a Drama for Still Alice
Best Actress in a Comedy/Musical for Map to the
    Stars
Best Supporting Actress for Map to the Stars

    Oscar 2015

    Best Actress for Still Alice
Best Supporting Actress for Map to the Stars

Can it happen at the Globes and Oscar next year? What
    are her chances?

Julianne’s reps reconfirmed that Maps won’t be given Oscar eligibilty (and even if it had the qualifying release date, I just don’t think it would happen).

Even if the performance warrants it, Maps to the Stars is entirely rejecting the Oscars. That being said, I could totally see her being a double nominee at the Globes. The campaign seems to suggest that it prioritizes the Globes instead of just ‘the big one’.

I can’t tell if you’re suggesting that she’s somehow going to be a triple-nominee at the Globes, but if you’re not (which you shouldn’t be) you should make that clear.

And, of course, none of that competes with Roberts’ immortal work last year in A TALKING CAT!?!

Holy, that Eric Roberts filmography is more insane than I knew was possible.

I wrote an article last week about Moore getting double nominated that should be up on the site soon.

Yeah, and maybe we should give all the cast members of A Million Ways to Die in the West with Oscars!

Lets relax witht he double nomiantions hahaha. Moore is the only one that could do that at the globes. DEFINITELY not Woodley. Although Carrell and Tatum sound like a possibility…….but its not very likely.

Double Moore at the globes is practically a lock. At the oscars? Lets just keep praying and maybe it actually does happen…

After Julianne Moore won Best Actress for David
Cronenberg’s Maps to the Stars at the
Cannes Film Festival in May, she seemed a lock for an equivalent nomination at
the Oscars, but that buzz has since subsided, as the film’s distributor is not
funding an official Oscar campaign and momentum for Moore has shifted to her
other eligible performance in Still Alice.

Whether voters would have embraced Maps to the Stars even with a campaign
seems moot, given that the Oscars allow an actor only one nomination per
category.  Because the film is not due
for general release until 2015, few have seen Moore’s performance.  Thanks to the Vancouver International Film
Festival, I have and can tell you that her role is actually supporting.

Given her top billing and Best Actress win at Cannes, the
    leading assumption is understandable.  But
she is four-time Oscar nominee Julianne Moore, so of course she was first
billed.  Unlike the Oscars, Cannes does
not have separate leading and supporting categories and their awards have gone
to actors that are supporting at the Oscars, like Christoph Waltz (Inglourious Basterds).

If there is a lead in Maps to the Stars, Mia Wasikowska has the best claim.  She is both first and last to appear on
screen; however, even she can make a solid case for supporting placement, given
that she has just 42 minutes of screen time across the film’s non-credits runtime
of 104 minutes.  Moore has 40, so even calling
her leading over Evan Bird, who introduced the VIFF screening, is dubious with
his 38 minutes and the film’s narrative constantly shifting between the three
viewpoint characters played by these actors.

The average screen time for the Best Actress nominees last year was 57
minutes, ranging from 75 for Sandra Bullock (Gravity) down to 46 for Amy Adams (American Hustle), who was variably criticized for not submitting in
    supporting.  Her co-star Bradley Cooper
was nominated in supporting with 41 minutes.
Pushing Moore’s work in Maps to the Stars as supporting is smart
strategically; going lead is arguably category fraud.

Eleven actors have been nominated twice
simultaneously, the last being Cate Blanchett in 2007 (Elizabeth: The Golden Age, I’m
    Not There
    ).  Moore was actually the
ninth to achieve this feat, in 2002 (Far
    from Heaven
    , The Hours) and is
one of four not to have won either nomination.
If she is successful this year, she would be the only actor to have been
    double-nominated twice.

Moore’s completely co-lead in Maps. The supporting actors in it are Pattinson, Cusack, and Williams.
