With ten BP nominees, I only match 2 with the Academy. 46 different films score at least one nomination — only one gets double-digit noms.

My personal awards stretch back to 2006, so any nominations or wins before that are not recognized.

    Best Visual Effects:

Last year’s nominees: *Interstellar, The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies, The Babadook, Guardians of the Galaxy, Birdman

NOTE: For my visual effect nominations, I value creativity over the most effects or the most explosions. In some ways, I have seen those types of movies hundreds of times, so that is why an indie movie can still show up here if it uses its effects well.

    And the nominees are…

Mad Max: Fury Road… for its imaginative use of practical effects
    (Andrew
Jackson, Dan Oliver, Andy Williams, Tom Wood)
    All are first-time nominees.

Son of Saul… for its creative distortion of perspective
    (Barnabas
Princz, Szabolcs Princz) All are first-time nominees.

The Good Dinosaur… for blending photorealistic backgrounds with stylized characters
    (Stephan
Vladimir Bugaj, Eric LaCroix, Jonathan D. Penney, Donald Schmidt) All are first-time nominees

    The Revenant… for the bear!
    (Richard
McBride, Matt Shumway, Jason Smith, Cameron Waldbauer) All are first-time nominees

The Diary of a Teenage Girl… for augmenting the story with comic-book inspired visual flourishes
(Corentin De Saedeleer) This is her first nomination.

Honorable mentions: Star Wars: The Force Awakens, Kingsman: The Secret Service, The Walk, Ant-Man, In the Heart of the Sea

    Tomorrow: Makeup and hairstyling!
