It certainly is not the worst Oscar win ever. However, I do think people overrate his performance. I think Matt Damon, who was supposed to be playing the part, would have been equally good or even better (I personally find him more relatable and human than Casey, and I think he could have made me care more for the character.) It really comes down to one’s taste, at the end of the day. It’s funny, because while everyone is saying Stone’s Oscar was very undeserved, I think she actually made a wonderful job of making the audience care for her, thus making the ending of La La Land the emotional punch that it is for those who actually liked the movie.

Haha this guy was trolling Denzel a week ago. Give him his Animal chunks at 5 each evening and then back away from the caged exhibit.

Yeah he has another Oscar worthy performance in him. He might even win another.

I could see it going either way. The Oscar and success of Manchester has certainly helped raise his profile and increase his respect levels as an actor, but I’d guess that he’ll stay on the indie scene for the most part and continue working with the sort of auteurs and in the sorts of projects that the Academy typically doesn’t recognise. I’d be surprise if he changed his career course much.

He’s directing and starring in a new movie called Light of my Life. I guess it was just recently sold in like 15 different countries.

He likes the independent movies, I think he’ll for sure get more awards.

It’ll be tough. He’s not like Tom Hardy or Fassbender or Joaquin Phoenix. Those guys have more expansive ranges, so can be cast effectively in more things, and show different sides to their abilities.

I think he’ll do similar roles to Manchester By The Sea, but I can’t see him getting the same level of response. Though you never know.

I don’t think it’s impossible for him to make it back to the oscars as a nominee. Maybe in a supporting role at some point. He’s probably done with winning.

Ignoring the OP’s saltiness. I see Casey doing more roles like Assassination of Jesse James and showing up in future Supporting Actors races. In my opinion, his movie choices/catalogue has been too independent for the Oscars to get another Lead Role nomination for awhile. I actually see him getting an Oscar nomination for playing a psychotic villain.

Regardless if you like his win or not or think Casey’s acting range is very limited, I think we can all agree he’s a much better actor than his brother Ben, who has barely any range.

I think if Casey continues with this caliber of work he will become this century’s answer to Brando. Viola was the only thing stopping Denzel from chewing every piece of scenery in Fences. He was almost comic in his theatricality and not even worthy of a nomination for that film.

I have no words for this statement. No…just no.

Hardy, Fassbender and Phoenix have no Oscars. Casey also doesn’t do it often, but he has even comedic range. As he reminded everyone at the Spirit Awards about Ocean’s 11.

And the Oscars are all about the Independents. Which gives him more opportunity than the big budgets.

Yet Cuba Gooding jr does. What does that tell you?

Oscars are nice to have, but never having won one does not neccesarily make you a better actor (or even in the same league) as some non- Oscar-winning actors. Richard Burton and Peter O’Toole never won Oscars, and are greater actors than many who have.

Even with his Oscar win, I’m probably wouldn’t even put Affleck in the top 10 in his generation of film actors, for range, talent and overall ability.

I think you could easily put Leo Dicaprio, Christian Bale, Phoenix, Fassbender, Oscar Isacc, Chiwetel Ejiofor, Matthew McConaughey, Idris Elba, Tom Hardy and Gael Garcia Bernal ahead of him.

McConaughey probably has the least range on that list, but it’s still a lot more than Affleck’s, I think.

Whether or not he has the range of those actors (he hasn’t gotten the opportunities some of those guys have so yet to be seen), he has two of the best performances I’ve seen in my lifetime in the Assassination of Jesse James By The Coward Robert Ford, and Manchester Bt the Sea, which is now the greatest awards run by any actor ever.
