The musical of this thread has been quite successful, so I thought I would create one for plays

VANYA AND SONIA AND MASHA AND SPIKE
    Vanya
      – Kevin Spacey
    Sonia – Jodie Foster
Masha – Sigourney Weaver (she can reprise the role and get an Oscar)
    Spike – Aaron Tveit
    Cassandra – Zoe Saldanha

    The Assembled Parties

    Faye – Judith Light

Julie – Julia Roberts (I think she would nail it)
    Ben – Brad Pitt
    Mort – George Clooney
    Scotty – Daniel Radcliffe
    Jeff – Rupert Grint
Shelley – ? (an unknown I guess…..cannot think of anyone who is perfect for the role)
Tim –  The kid from Modern Family for young Tim (not Rico Rodriguez the other kid) and Drake Bell for older Tim

If Sigourney Weaver couldn’t get a Tony nomination for the role, she can’t win an Oscar. The role is not even that juicy in the stage play, but it would probably be expanded for a film, much like Amy Adams’ character in Doubt.

    Fences
Directed by Denzel Washington (this is supposedly happening)
    Adapted by John Ridley

    Troy – Denzel Washington
    Rose – Viola Davis
    Cory – Chadwick Boseman
    Bono – Samuel L. Jackson
    Gabriel – Don Cheadle
    Raynell – Quvenzhane Wallis

If this gets pulled off properly:

    Best Picture (nominated)
    Best Director (nominated)
Best Actor – Denzel Washington (win)
Best Supporting Actor – Samuel L. Jackson, Don Cheadle (one of them wins, hard to pick), maybe Boseman
Best Supporting Actress – Viola Davis (win – she won the lead Tony, but it was category fraud that wouldn’t work at the Oscars. For the original Broadway production Mary Alice won the featured/supporting award)

I can’t think of the cast right now but I would like to see a film version of The Real Thing and The Pillowman.

A Long Day’s Journey Into Night
Directed and adapted by Stephen Daldry

    Mary Tyrone – Jessica Lange
James Tyrone – Tommy Lee Jones
    James Tyrone – Bradley Cooper
Edmund Tyrone – Joseph Gordon Levitt
    Cathleen – Hayley Atwell

Oscar nominations for best picture, screenplay, director, actress (Lange), actor (Jones) and supporting actor (Cooper and Levitt)

    An Inspector Calls
    Directed by Sam Mendes

    Mr Birling – Jeremy Irons
    Mrs Birling – Glenn Close
    The Inspector – Ed Harris
    Sheila Birling – Jessica Chastain
    Eric Birling – Jesse Eisenberg
    Gerald Croft – Benedict Cumberbatch

Oscar nominations for best picture, screenplay, director, actress (Chastain), supporting actor (Eisenberg), production design and score. With long overdue wins for actor (Harris) and supporting actress (Close) – one can live in hope anyway!
