I say Dunaway is Lead in both Chinatown and Network. Finch is awfully similar to Hopkins, in that the screen time isn’t really there but his presence hovers over the entire picture.

OSCAR FLASHBACK: 20 Years of Streep (1990) – Postcards from the Edge

But he’s in it far more than Hopkins surely and the whole story revolves around his character even if he’s not on screen that much. Lecter is more of a subplot.

What about Valerie Perrine in Lenny.

That is an odd one. She won a bunch of critics awards as supporting but then was nominated as lead. (doubt she’d have won in supporting though either.)

Perrine insisted on a Lead campaign at the Oscars, as did Talia Shire for Rocky.

I still think Julianne Moore and Nicole Kidman switched their categories in The Hours or they’re all supporting. Moore’s character is the only one that coincides with another characters timeline (I think she had more screentike than Kidman) While Nicoles character is only relevant to Meryl and Moores character through her book.

I think Moore went supporting so she could get the double nominations for Lead and supporting for Far From Heaven and The Hours.

I guess they thought lead nominations would be better for their careers and make them leading ladies. Shire blew it though. I think she’d have won supporting if she’d been in there.

Do my posts just not go through sometimes or something because people constantly repeat things and explanations that I literally just said like it’s new information they just came up with

I think Nicole had the least amount of screentime (20-25 minutes). Julianne had about 35 and Meryl was close to 40, so by technical standards, Meryl was the lead. Both Moore and Kidman were relevant to Meryl in different ways. But Kidman went lead because she was the root of it all and that train station scene helped even though it wasn’t even her best scene.

    And should have won both.

this might sound crazy, but I could’ve easily seen Ryan gosling being campaigned for supporting in LLL. He was basically supporting Emma’s character the whole movie (driving her to her audition/supporting her financially when she was unemployed working on her one woman show/taking the bang gig because of what he thought she wanted/cooking dinner for her) I think Emma had more screentime in the movie and part of the movie theme is about chasing dreams and we know she chose to pursue her career over their relationship…wonder if he was put in supporting would he have won. He’d have a better chance taking down Mahershala than Casey realistically.

I still consider Gosling lead in LLL, but omg yes, it bothered me how dependent his storyline was on Stone’s. He was pretty much a manic pixie dream guy, most of his character just there to support and encourage her and eventually let her go work on her own dreams (and y’know immediately meet someone new, get married and get knocked up for The Dramaz) and we don’t even see him independently, we just see him through Stone’s narrative. But there was no way any sane person would have put him in supporting and I don’t see him beating Mahershala, or for that matter either Patel or ATJ. He is just not as great of an actor as people give him credit for.

Sis, let poor Gosling live just because he hasnt taken his shirt off since Crazy Stupid Love lol. I’m a little surprise the studios didn’t try to push him Supporting since Casey was racking awards left and right early on anyways. You’d think they’d be like maybe he has better chance in supporting and for LLL to break the all-time record lol. I thought he had even less to do than Viola in Fences. Maybe they thought Jon Legend would be a consideration for supporting lol.

Uhm, I think you’re forgetting that Casey was last place. Denzel was the unquestioned frontrunner and critic’s awards don’t matter yet somehow they did matter and they conspired against Denzel and somehow ruined his chances despite him simultaneously being a critical darling and better than Brando. If it weren’t for Baffleck and Damon going door-to-door to the house of every voter and threatening them at gunpoint to vote for Casey, Denzel would have had it. Keep up hun. 😉

Honestly I would have been fine with Gosling getting into supporting if it meant Edgerton or Gyllenhaal or any other of the more talented snubs getting in. And I will never let up @ Gosling because of this fucking Eldritch abomination I had to read in the Oscars will win/should win section of my Sunday paper that day:

In “La La Land,” Ryan Gosling did something that screen greats like Cary Grant and Harrison Ford perfected. He projected skeptical charm on the surface and, simultaneously, romantic yearning underneath that layer. And he made it look a lot more effortless than his charmingly pro-am singing and dancing. Without him, the exuberant-wistful blend of feelings that inflates the film might fall flatter than a pancake. Grant never won as best actor in his lifetime. Ford hasn’t yet. If Gosling did, it would be a rarity in a city of stars.

??????? Grant???????? Ford????????? Did we see the same movie. Eat ass Julie Hinds.

The only pancake was Ryan and Emmas’ vocals and LLL screenplay. They must’ve saw LLL with HSM vocals/soundtrack dubbed over the movie. lol where do you even find these fake news reviews
