By the way they have to present together at the globesOctober 18, 2013 at 9:39 pm #115410
Uh, okay . . .
Claire Danes has won 3 Emmys, 4 Golden Globes, 2 SAGs, 1 TCA, and 1 Critics Choice Award. I doubt she thinks about Titanic.October 18, 2013 at 10:00 pm #115411
Well in Turner’s defense I doubt there are many actors who wouldn’t at least sometimes regret not taking the lead role in one of the most iconic and famous movies of the last 20 years, awards or no awards.October 18, 2013 at 10:27 pm #115412
Her awards, stans, and vanity producer credit told me to tell you that she’s good.October 18, 2013 at 11:08 pm #115413
Ah, geez…October 18, 2013 at 11:38 pm #115414
I didn’t even know she was offered the lead in Titanic. To be honest, I just can’t see her in that role. Kate Winslet was excellent in that part, and it’s hard to imagine skinny (not calling Winslet fat) little Claire Danes in that role.October 19, 2013 at 5:06 am #115416
Claire would have been just wrong for Titanic. I don’t think at that point in her career she would have been able to carry the film, much less convincingly romancing Leo. Plus they had just done Romeo + Juliet together, so the repairing for a similar story would have also been strange. I think it really took Temple Grandin and Homeland for Danes to show that she does crazy and panicked personas best.October 19, 2013 at 6:38 am #115417
She’ll be fine.October 19, 2013 at 9:53 am #115419
CLAIRE DANES loved filming ROMEO + JULIET with LEONARDO DiCAPRIO in 1996 but had no wish to repeat the experience for TITANIC the year after.
IGBY GOES DOWN actress Claire shot to fame in the WILLIAM SHAKESPEARE adaptation with the popular hunk, but despite repeated requests for her to co-star with him again in the nautical drama, she just wasn’t interested.
She explains, “I’d just made Romeo + Juliet with him, filming in Mexico City for five months. He’s a lovely man and a great actor, but I’d never have been able to get away from him. I have no regrets.”October 19, 2013 at 10:34 am #115420
I’m sure she’s alright.October 19, 2013 at 10:56 am #115421
At the time, it probably looked like the smart thing to do. Remember, everybody expected Titanic to bomb and she probably thought she was dodging a bullet.
Regardless, her career didn’t suffer and she’s probably on her way to an Oscar nomination in the near future anyway.October 19, 2013 at 2:07 pm #115422
I think claire Danes would of been excellent in titanic I see a lot of similarities between rose and Angela on my so called life they both were rebelliousOctober 19, 2013 at 4:21 pm #115423
I love Claire Danes a whole lot, but Kate Winslet was perfect as Rose and I can’t imagine anyone else in that role. It worked out wonderfully for everyone in the end.
I wonder how much the original conception of Titanic as being a potential bomb factored into her decision. I really think it had a lot more to do with having just filmed Romeo + Juliet, which was also a romantic epic, with Leo.
