Clint Eastwood Set To Direct Biopic On Hudson River Pilot Hero ‘Sully’ Sullenberger
by Anita Busch June 2, 2015 12:44pm
Clint Eastwood will helm Warner Bros. Pictures’ as-yet-untitled drama about the life of Captain Chesley “Sully” Sullenberger, who became an American hero when, in 2009, he landed his disabled jet on the Hudson River, saving the lives of everyone aboard — passengers and crew, which numbered 155 people. Eastwood last directed American Sniper, a biopic about another American hero, Navy Seal sharpshooter Chris Kyle. That film grossed $543.4M worldwide.
It’s not clear who would play Sullenberger. Will Eastwood step into that role himself? Only time will tell, however, he apparently has no plans to at the moment.
Eastwood will direct the new biopic from a screenplay by Todd Komarnicki, which was based on the book Highest Duty: My Search For What Really Matters, by Sullenberger and Jeffrey Zaslow.
The film will be produced by Eastwood and Tim Moore, for Malpaso; Frank Marshall (Kennedy/Marshall) and Allyn Stewart, for Flashlight Films. Flashlight’s Kipp Nelson and RatPac-Dune’s Steven Mnuchin will executive produce.
Warner Bros. announced the new film today, saying “it will go beyond Sullenberger’s almost impossible and much-heralded achievement of safely landing a jumbo jet on the water, which was captured on video and viewed around the world. But behind the scenes, a drama was unfolding that could have cost him his reputation and his wings.”
“I am very glad my story is in the hands of gifted storyteller and filmmaker Clint Eastwood, and veteran producers Allyn Stewart and Frank Marshall,” said Sullenberger in a statement. “The project could not have found a better home than Warner Bros. Pictures. This is truly a dream team.”June 2, 2015 at 2:36 pm #187880
Sully wants to set the record straight after Flight.June 2, 2015 at 4:03 pm #187882
This sounds like a Clint Eastwood project, without a shadow of doubt. Can’t wait to feel underwhelmed and bored watching it.
But yeah get that role William H.Macy, come for those wigs!June 2, 2015 at 5:10 pm #187883
Yes, i can picture WIILIAM H MACY playing Sully
but i would rather see EDWARD NORTON with a bit
more make up…or possibly TOM HANKS..
as long as the film doesnt star DICAPRIO OR GYLLENHAAL
Ill be happy…LOLJune 2, 2015 at 5:46 pm #187884
Macy or Gyllenhaal would be my vote!June 2, 2015 at 7:59 pm #187885
I dont care at this point……..June 2, 2015 at 8:18 pm #187886
This sounds like an HBO telefilm that should star James Woods. It being a feature film with Clint helming it just shot it down (haha) a couple notches in my book. Macy’s fine, but Woods would be a better choice.June 2, 2015 at 9:38 pm #187887
Woody Harrelson because Sully is from Texas and Woody’s the right age.June 3, 2015 at 4:35 am #187888

This would be good too. This feels more like an HBO movieJune 3, 2015 at 5:24 am #187889
Sam Eliot would be a good choice too.June 3, 2015 at 7:25 am #187890
Sully was 57 when the accident occurred. Harrelson is 54, Woods is 68 and Elliott is 72. They are too old to be believable as working airline pilots.June 3, 2015 at 7:31 am #187891
Woody Harrelson because Sully is from Texas and Woody’s the right age.
I’ll watch just about anything which features Woody Harrelson.
Great suggestion.June 18, 2015 at 6:04 pm #187892
Looks like it might be Tom Hanks’ role for the taking per Variety: http://variety.com/2015/film/news/tom-hanks-sully-clint-eastwood-1201520938/
