With Hugh Jackman getting early buzz for Logan, and The Greatest Showman on Earth also coming out later this year, would it be possible for Hugh Jackman to get one nomination (but be listed for both films mentioned above)? Yes, I’m saying this because the Razzies do it.

No, the rules do not allow this (or for an actor to be nominated twice in the same category simultaneously).

A fun fact: Steven Soderbergh was nominated for Best director for Erin Brokovich and Traffic the same year, which he won for Traffic. Don’t know if that was just an Academy oversight but it might be changed now.

No, that is not allowed. This is why actors often have to choose which role to submit for; or in some cases choose to submit in supporting for one role (often resulting in category fraud.)

I don’t think that you should be able to be have one nomination for 2 films but you should be able to have two nominations for two films in the same category.

I agree. If the award is for the performance, then there’s no real reason an actor couldn’t be up for a particular category for more than one individual performance.

If anything his success from Logan could help catapult him into a nomination for The Greatest Showman on Earth depending on how awards season works out.

Not true, in early ceremonies ,until the third one, some actors and actresses were nominated for more than one performance.

Different scenario, different categories. And it also happened twice before Soderbergh. And it could’ve happened more times, to Francis Ford Coppola, for example, who won Director, Screenplay and Picture for Godfather II, but also had another screenplay nomination (this time original) and another Best Picture nomination for The Conversation which he also directed, but missed out on that nomination.

Oscars are not like Golden Globes or Bafta award to nominate an actor in the same category twice. It would take a miracle for this to happen.
