Remember in 2007 when Eddie Murphy had won both a Golden Globe and SAG award and his Oscar victory seemed inevitable? That was until Norbit came out in February a movie that won Murphy 3 Razzie awards. The Oscar ended up going to Arkin in Little Miss Sunshine.

It didn’t stop Natalie Portman from winning when an equally bad movie No Strings Attached which also came out during voting but, was she so far ahead that it didn’t matter?

Could Eddie Redmayne in a very close race, see his chances of winning an Oscar slip away due to his role in a movie coming out during voting?

Never thought about that. It might be possible.

I don’t think so. Most people are going to connect Mila Kunis or Channing Tatum with Jupiter Ascending, and if it is a bomb, will likely hate on them. Honestly, I had no idea Eddie was in that movie until like a month ago.

He’s not the front-runner so no, I find it funny everyone is bitching about Jupiter Ascending might ruin Eddie’s Oscar and yet nobody is talking about Julieanne Moore and Seventh Son.

That’s because Seventh Son has flop written all over it. It only makes a difference if people actually know it exists.

No, not really, for 2 reasons. 1, Murphy was hands down the front runner that year which Redmayne is NOT. And 2, JA doesn’t appear to be anywhere near as degrading and offensive as Norbit was.

Norbit was given an Oscar nod for Makeup/hair. We ALL remember that, correct?

My point is in a close race could a “bomb” during voting like what happened to Murphy be the difference between winning and loosing?

I think that the voters aren’t going to be the core demo for Jupitar. Though it could but I don’t think so. Especially since it is a supporting role.

    Eddie Redmayne has Oscar chances?

    I feel the irony here.

He was breathtaking in “The Theory of Everything” and is very much deserving of the Oscar. Yes. He has a chance, because I believe that it can be about the performance.

    Were they for Norbit?

Lupita Nyong’o was in Non-Stop last year, which was released in the middle of Oscar voting, and it didn’t do her any harm.

Plus, her win wasn’t guaranteed, with Lawrence still posing a threat.

I don’t think Jupiter Ascending will flop excessively, so he should be fine.

Non-Stop wasn’t terrible – it was just mediocre. It helped that she only had a small part

I don’t know if anyone has heard this, but it was tweeted that Redmayne’s publicists and managers are trying to distance him from Jupiter Ascending because he was absolutely terrible in it and it is predicted to hurt his chances, and if the people on his side agree that he is terrible, he has to be.
