While Michael Fassbender may be at the top of the Best Actor predictions for Steve Jobs, let’s just say that hypethetically, the bad buzz the film got is troublesome for his chances. Yet Macbeth is still premiering at the AFI Film Festival and is coming out in a more timely release in the beginning of December. So in case voters still want to honor the banner year he’s having with Macbeth, Steve Jobs, and even Slow West, would they go for Macbeth? Fassbender did score a BIFA nod.

    Let’s discuss.

I think if Macbeth is pushed hard enough it could happen. I really don’t hear much rumblings about his performance in Steve Jobs being a slam dunk ticket and with just the trailers and clips I’ve seen it seems like Macbeth is a superior performance. I’ve been pretty much on the Macbeth train since I found out it was happening a year and half ago so hopefully it can be a jolt when it opens

Macbeth strengthens his Steve Jobs case, perhaps neutralizing the box office story. There’s no way he gets in for Macbeth.

^ This. Weinstein is apparently doing very little to boost Macbeth’s awards profile, otherwise he probably would have put Cotillard into supporting in classic Weinstein-style. But it does have a strong chance at a costume nom for Jacquline Durran (Anna Karenina, Mr. Turner)
