This movie directed and written by Lars von Trier was nominated for one Academy Award (Best Original Song), being deserving of at least one more nomination for Best Actress (Bjork)

Do you like this film? Do you think it deserved more nominations?

Nominations for Picture and Director would have been deserved. Bjork certainly deserved a nomination, but Burstyn should have won that year by a huge margin.

Bjork should have been nominated, 100%, without a doubt, hands down, absolutely. It may be the greatest film performance ive ever seen.

The scene of her execution is so strongly performed, it makes me cry.

Yep, Dancer in the Dark is an astounding movie, easily the best post-2000 musical. I think its reputation will only continue to grow over the years. I also agree that ending is like a kick in the stomach. Absolutely brilliant and powerful stuff.

PS: This is another example when metacritic, which ranked Dancer an insulting 61/100, is full of shite.

it’s ridiculous that Julia Roberts won over Burstyn, Linney and Allen, especially when Bjork and Gillian Anderson (The House of Mirth) weren’t even nominated
