over the years, Dave Karger has been a great barometer
and predictor of oscars..I value his opinions more than
    any other oscarologist..

I also believe that 12 years a Slave will win
    PICTURE, DIRECTOR, ADAPTED SCREENPLAY AND
    possibly actor and sup. actress….

Dern and Redford both have had 50+ years to win an acting
oscar and they havent..so why would the academy reward them now??
Unless the performance of either is soooo beyond brilliant…

I agree that BLANCHETT  is the one to beat with only DENCH
    as  the closest rival….Streep…too soon…and Bullock..never again…

Sup. actor seems like JARED LETO with his transformation
and gender bending role is the frontrunner…

Mr Karger……I am with you !!!

He’s as good as anyone right before the awards.
But this far out still, I don’t consider anyone to be too prescient. My vague recollection at this point 4 years ago he was predicting an Up in the Air win. No problem – no one knows this far out, and things change, as they could this year.
But I agree that his predictions are worth a thread based on his past record.

Interesting how he predicts American Hustle to get in for picture and O. Russell for director and to win for screenplay, but none of the actors from the film to get nominated.

Pardon me, but I think we here (the ones who have the courage to say so anyways) are as good as Mr Karger……Lol. I mean, I saw no revelatory predix from the guy, bless his accurate history heart ‘n all.
    Thanks Dave!

babypook looks to be stuck in an infinite loop! He he!

On topic, I think this is a little early. But as far as current films that have been released, it might be useful to compare against other entries. What is interesting to me here is the comparison vs Gravity (the most significant competitor so far this year). He ranks them very close to each other. We will have to see how the rest of the year develops, but it looks like the big three this year are probably going to be 12 Year, Gravity, and American Hustle.

Aww, poor babypook. That was more than 3 pages worth of the same post.

I have Gravity winning BP/BD, Robert Redford winning Best Actor, and Oprah Winfrey winning Best Supporting Actress.

Well, of course critics are going to be going for it so quick. It just freshly premiered at Telluride and Toronto to expected critical acclaim. (It also won the People’s Choice Award). Why wouldn’t critics go for it?

Inside Llewyn Davis had similar reactions at Cannes. Depending on which month (and which period of the Awards season), many films will claim front-runner status. American Hustle was front runner the whole year on buzz alone (well, until now when it was dethroned to #3 status), Gravity exploded on the scene to front runner status in Venus, now 12 Years a Slave made its debut and of course it will claim front runner status.

I think this race will only be in full swing come November.

The only problem I have with his predictions is that he’s predicting Nebraska for Best Picture (#9), Best Director (#5), Best Supporting Actress (#5), Best Original Screenplay (#3), but not for Best Actor. How can the film get 4 major nominations and miss out on Best Actor? Isn’t Dern the heart of his movie?

It’s only September and  the major bookie here in the UK has suspended bets on 12 YRS !…WHY ?…because every man and his dog know that it’s going to win …a keen grasp of the obvious , you may well say

It’s a very safe bet to pridict both BP and BD as they are INSEPARATABLE SIMANESE TWINS ……the voters are not going to ignore Mcqueen when no black man has ever won a directing oscar are they ?….the political correctness of it all would be too much to ignore , and let’s face it , they would make themselves vunerable to bogus accusations of racism ……having said that , I think Mcqueen well  deserves an Oscar on his own merit , but liberal PC will put it beyond all doubt

Karger is taking a bit of a risk by predicting BA and BSA as EJIFOR has some impressive competition in REDFORD…..there is virtually no dialogue in the movie ALL IS LOST , infact it may well be a silent movie where the actor must express himself solely through facial expressions and body language ; and furthermore REDFORD is an aging Hollywood icon

Predicting 12YRS to win BSA is a stretch as OPRAH has a hugh advantage being a well known celebtity AND being a black woman

You don’t have any political instincs whatsoever….. NONE !………..politically speaking , you are merely a CHILD !

OBAMA had more chance of losing the last election than 12YRS has of losing it’s bid for Best Picture

Wow, know we know who REALLY loves them some 12 Years!

Don’t know why you are coming for me. But OK., since you are, let me just say:

When you get time to come up for air (after getting your head out of Politics and your presumed assumption that politics will rule this years Oscars) reread my post and chill.

You really need to leave your emotions out of your predictions and posts. And politically speaking, you didn’t properly quote and reply to my post.

Maybe 12 Years a Slave  has more chance losing this race than you learning how to quote my posts correctly?

    Your truelly

    CHILD.
