I wish I had something more elaborate to say than this, but fuck it: YES!March 2, 2013 at 12:07 pm #94020
I believe Laura Dern is involved in this project too. Can’t wait.March 2, 2013 at 12:48 pm #94021
I know he did INLAND EMPIRE but it feels like it has been forever since he had a film that really got some notice, that being Mulholland Dr. which was 12 years ago now.
I am hoping the film can be a major awards contender and hopefully get him an overdue Oscar (I won’t hold my breath) but I am extremely excited by this news!March 2, 2013 at 12:57 pm #94022

When I talked to his charming daughter not that long ago about this very thing, she indicated David would be making another film. Let’s hope it’s as good as The Straight Story or Mulholland Drive, disparate films that demonstrate his genious. He will also appear in Jen’s new film.

Same here 😀 If the film gets good reviews, I can see him at least getting a directing nomination. Despite no wins, Lynch is loved by the Oscars, having received more nominations there than at most other awards groups. Here is a tally of his Best Director nominations at various major awards groups:
BAFTA – 1 nom, 0 wins
Critics Choice – 1 nom,1 win
Directors Guild – 1 nom, 0 wins
Golden Globes – 2 noms, 0 wins
Independent Spirit – 2 noms, 0 wins
LA Film Critics – 2 noms, 2 wins
NY Film Critics – 3 noms, 0 wins
Oscars – 3 noms, 0 winsMarch 3, 2013 at 7:55 am #94025

Returning? He never left.
Well, he was on kind of a hiatus for seven years.March 3, 2013 at 12:11 pm #94027
Say hiatus then.March 3, 2013 at 2:50 pm #94028
If he didn’t win in 2001, then I don’t know… Mulholland Dr. was not only his best film but one of his more accessible works. it had a star-making performance by Naomi Watts (another snub). The competition was weak. In the end, the voters opted for.. Ron Howard. LOL. Some guys are just too outside the Academy’s comfort zone. Nonetheless, great news that Lynch is ready to get back to directing.March 3, 2013 at 3:37 pm #94029
It wasn’t just a hiatus. Lynch himself said he wasn’t really interested in film that much anymore. I’m glad he is coming back, but it really wasn’t just a hiatus and probably could’ve been permanent had he not found something that interested him.March 3, 2013 at 4:19 pm #94030
yeah, pretty much like Soderbergh and Di Caprio.
I’m sorry I don’t believe in retirements anymore. Not even in politics, not even in cinema, not even in art.
