Denmark’s Bodil Prizes: ‘Nympho-maniac’, ‘The Hunt’ Lead Nominations
    By NANCY TARTAGLIONE, International Editor
    | Tuesday, 7 January 2014 12:58

In an effort to promote their Bodil Awards, Danish film critics undressed and swooned in a Nymphomaniac-styled poster ahead of the holidays. Turns out it wasn’t just a prime photo-op, they also really liked the movie. Lars von Trier‘s well-reviewed sex drama has been nominated for six Bodils, Denmark’s answer to the Oscar. It’s the most-nominated film along with Thomas Vinterberg’s The Hunt, which has been shortlisted for the Foreign Language Oscar. Both are vying for Best Picture, along with Michael Noer’s Northwest, Nils Malmros’ Sorrow And Joy and Denmark’s No. 1 box office hit The Keeper Of Lost Causes, directed by Mikkel Nørgaard. Nymphomaniac also picked up nods for stars Charlotte Gainsbourg, Uma Thurman, Stacy Martin, Stellan Skarsgård and Jamie Bell. The Hunt‘s Mads Mikkelsen is nominated in the lead actor category; he won the top acting prize in Cannes for the film back in 2012. Other mentions for The Hunt include actors Anne-Louise Hassing, Susse Wold (in her first role after 27 years away from film), Lars Ranthe and Thomas Bo Larsen. The Bodil prize ceremony will be held on February 1st in Copenhagen. The full, uncut, version of Nymphomaniac world premieres at the Berlin Film Festival later in the month. The full list of nominees is on the next page:

Do they not have technical categories?  It would be nice to see the craft of Only God Forgives do a nomination sweep somewhere.  Does this need a whole thread?

Perhaps we should have an International Awards thread next year (Goyas, Cesars, European Film Awards, etc).

Nice to see The Hunt getting it’s deserved recognition. The acting in the film was fantastic, and I’m hoping for wins by Mikkelsen, Larsen, Wold as well as Picture.

Very happy to see Only God Forgives do so well in the technical categories and the ones specifically that it won because those wins are deserved.  Just because a movie sucks does not mean that it was not well crafted.
