I was torn between him and Gibson and I stayed the safe route. Ugh. I did pick Villeneuve.

WOW. For Garth Davis to breakthrough with such a large voting body is huge.

He’s actually the only feature film nominee that has a previous DGA nod tho for a commercial.

Yay Villeneuve, ugh Davis. Disappointed in no Mackenzie. I still don’t think Davis will make it to the Oscars. I’m now putting Villeneuve in my Oscar predictions and taking Gibson. I am leaving Mackenzie in instead of giving Davis his spot. Also, if Arrival gets nominations for directing, writing, picture, Adams, editing and more, does anybody think it could upset?

Mackenzie could definitely still get in the Oscars, but I think Scorsese and Gibson are out.

I thought that I was so clever for having Garth Davis in my Oscar predictions, but I did not expect him to get DGA as well. There goes his status as a “surprise” nominee.

Silence is biggest flop since Saving Mr Banks.

So Lion is definitely in for Best Picture, not that anyone was doubting that. But there it is. I’m surprised the guild went with him and not Gibson as the 4th/5th pic along with Villeneuve who’s always been in those final slots with Gibson.

As for Scorsese, he’s dead to me in this race, although he would be shocking nominee now, or the no guts no glory and all that crap people like to play with.

I mentioned yesterday that along with Chazelle, Lonergan, Jenkins as the locks, McKenzie could surprise and I still think he might. But with this nod, I’m leaving Villeneuve where I have him, as fourth and locked, but I still think McKenzie could be the fifth surprise nominee or there’s no surprise nominee and Gibson takes that spot. I’m taking Gibson out for now and leving McKenzie in.

With these nominations, I replaced Scorsese with Davis, but I am still keeping David Mackenzie instead of Villeneuve just because I locked Mackenzie at 1/100, would be happy with either him or Villeneuve getting the last slot. Was not expecting Mel Gibson here, not expecting him for Oscar either.

ECSTATIC about Garth Davis! Lion is my #2 movie of the year! It’s a fantastic directorial achievement! i would love for the Director’s branch to do the same and give him a richly deserved Oscar nomination!

Damien Chazelle is going to win both DGA and Oscar. His film is #3 for me. (MBTS is #1; my top 3 all got nominations!)

I feel bad for Martin Scorsese ): He wasn’t in my personal top five but it’s much better work than Jenkins or Villeneuve.

I was 4 for 5 ultimately in predictions, yet thrilled with the one I got wrong!
