DiCaprio will play H.H. Holmes, who murdered between 27 and 200 people, mostly single young women. Set against the backdrop of the 1893 Chicago World’s Fair, “The Devil in the White City” tells the intertwining stories of fair architect Daniel H. Burnham and Holmes, who used a hotel he built near the fairgrounds to lure his victims. Variety has the scoop- http://variety.com/2015/film/news/leonardo-dicaprio-martin-scorsese-reunite-for-devil-in-the-white-city-1201567113/

Who do you think should co-star with DiCaprio as Daniel H. Burnham, the architect of the Chicago World’s Fair? If Philip Seymour Hoffman were still alive he would’ve likely been a shoe-in, but I’m thinking that this could be the role that John Goodman’s been waiting for.

He’s playing Holmes? Not exactly an intriguing serial killer, just a depressing, mundane little man. Burnham’s a more interesting character.

I wonder why Larson’s other books Isaac’s Storm and In the Garden of Beasts haven’t been filmed instead? Much more interesting than Devil in the White City (serial killers have been done, done and overdone IMO). Presumably, the attraction for Scorsese is building the World’s Fair.

Thats would be great casting. The only person I could think of was Tom Wilkinson.

Why are people casting actors in their 60s as Burnham? He was only 46 when he designed the World’s Fair.

He was very fat though. So maybe Jonah Hill (though Leo’s looking pretty Orson Wellesesque these days! Maybe he’s actually playing Burnham)

John Goodman would be good! Although I think they may go for a bigger name, for some reason I am picturing Tom Hank’s as Daniel H. Burnham.

I was casting on looks. John Goodman looks more like him in age and appearance than Hill. As for Leo, Variety is saying DiCaprio is Holmes. I suppose it could change, but DiCaprio has been making interesting (and different) choices lately, so I can totally see him wanting to play the serial killer.

I too was thinking they would go with a bigger name. I’d love to see Goodman get a big breakout role though after doing strong work in minor roles these last few years (‘Flight’, ‘Argo’, ‘Inside Llewyn Davis’, ‘The Gambler’).

Leo Di Caprio doesn’t look like Holmes so I don’t see why an actor playing Burnham would actually have to be fat. Burnham was at the height of his productivity at that time. More important that a dynamic actor play the role. I adore John Goodman but doubt if this is the role for him. If Scorsese is going to cast an actor in that age group, he could at least give De Niro a job again. All he’s done lately for Scorsese is that Chinese commercial with Di Caprio and Brad Pitt. C’mon Marty! Give Bob a chance!

P.S. Please Marty, do not cast Andrew Garfield. I cannot abide Garfield. He’s an annoying little twit.

If there’s any major female role in this I’m hoping Scorcese gets Chloe Moretz involved. She worked brilliantly with him in Hugo!

So it’s gonna be 3 hours long, Leo’s going to chew scenery doing same bag of tricks he’s been using since 2002, a bunch of people will cream themselves over the film regardless of its actual quality and then come Oscar time Leo will lose again to the sound of wailing and gnashing of teeth. Can’t wait.

Aww, Philip Seymour Hoffman would have been absolute perfection as Burnham. Paul Giamatti or Liev Schreiber might be good choices. They might not be big box office stars, but that wouldn’t matter with DiCaprio there.

Oddly enough, just looking at actors who are roughly the right age and physical appearance, Patton Oswalt, Zach Galafianakis, or Jack Black would appear to be the frontrunners, ha.
