She can’t be nominated more than once in the same category so this scenario is impossible.

In the early days of the Oscars people could be nominated for multiple performances but if victorious they were awarded for all of them. Janet Gaynor and Emil Jannings in the first ever awards won for their years work.

In 1944 Barry Fitzgerald got enough votes to be nommed in both Lead
and Supporting for Going My Way. He won in Supporting and the rules were
swiftly amended so it couldn’t happen again.

He did didn’t he. It’s only actors that can’t be nommed twice isn’t it.

    Happens in every other category.

It is fascinating/ridiculous that actors are the only people unable to get nominated multiple times in a category. If someone has done multiple roles in a year that are both worthy, I do not see the problem.

It happened 3 times for Best Original Screenplay nominees:

    1. 1941
Preston Sturges was nominated for both “Hail the Conquering Hero” and “The Miracle of Morgan’s Creek”. He’s the only one nominated twice for solo credits.
Lamar Trotti won the award for “Wilson”.

    2. 1959
Stanley Shapiro and Maurice Richlin were part of writing teams nominated for “Operation Petticoat” and “Pillow Talk”. They won for the latter.

    3. 1986
Olivier Stone was nominated for writing “Platoon” and co-writing “Salvador”.
Woody Allen won the award for “Hannah and Her Sisters”.

It happens often in the Music categories.  Heck, John Williams has competed against himself on 8 separate occasions. 1 of his 5 Oscars was when he beat himself (STAR WARS over CLOSE ENCOUNTERS).

Only four times has someone been nominated twice in the same year in the Film Editing category:

1938 – Tom Held – THE GREAT WALTZ and TEST PILOT
1987 – Michael Kahn – EMPIRE OF THE SUN and FATAL ATTRACTION
1990 – Walter Murch – GHOST and THE GODFATHER, PART III
2012 – William Goldenberg – ARGO and ZERO DARK THIRTY

LOL at 1st Academy Awards. George Barnes nominated for Best Cinematography 3 times for 3 different movies only to lose to duo of remaining nominees (nominated together for the same film). Thankfully he won 12 years later for “Rebecca”.

alicia vikander may probably be a double nominee at the Oscar this year, that will solve the problem, with the regulation for the acting category which forbid two nominations in the same category !… The BAFTA voters  acknowledge hers incredible performances in THE DANISH GIRL & EX MACHINA
