I just had a Catherine Martin related conundrum that I was wondering if any of you could help me with. After her 2 wins for Gatsby, she stands with 4 oscars.
I know the woman with the most oscars ever was Edith Head with 8, but she died. Then you’ve got Katharine Hepburn, who like Martin had 4 oscars, but like Head is sadly no longer with us.
So does that mean that Catherine Martin has more than any living woman? I know Thelma Schoonmaker, Meryl Streep, Colleen Atwood and Sandy Powell all have 3 oscars, but I did a quick search online and couldn’t find any living women with 4 or more oscars besides Catherine Martin. If this is true, I’m surprised more people haven’t been speaking about it, I mean it is a pretty cool record to have (although I’m pretty sure any of those women I just mentioned may win again)
Does anyone know of anyone I’ve missed out? Opinions?
Checked Fran Walsh and Thelma Schoonmaker – 3 each
Oh I’m surrpised that those costume queens only have 3 each.
I think “most alive” just seems like a morbid thing to boast about, thus its non-prominence in media.
It helps that Martin only had to win for 2 movies, as most people in the industry are only eligible for one categorization.
Well i think Colleen Atwood is the “next” Edith Head so i’m predicting plenty more nominations and wins for her. She’s doing the costumes for Into the Woods and Big Eyes at the moment.
Marilyn Bergman also has three wins for music.
