I have a feeling she must not have been too happy winning that award as “new star of the year-female”.

These categories are fun to read. That same year Lange won  Arnold Schwarzenegger won the male award beating out Truman Capote and the kid from The Omen.

On gettyimages and google images I did find a picture of Lange holding her Globe for King Kong backstage in 1976 so she was there to accept. I also watched on Youtube an Entertainment recap of the 1983 Oscars (the year she was nominated for Tootsie/Frances) and they showed a fan in the stands outside the Oscar ceremony holding a sign “MOVE OVER MERYL STREEP- JESSICA LANGE IS HERE TO STAY!”.  LOL I thought it could have been the rabid Jessica Lange fan who posts on here.

That is awesome!  If you come across the video again, plz share it.  If I had to guess, I would venture to say she simply said, “Thank you very much.”  Hey, a globe is a globe!  Did Meryl win this in a previous year?

Streep was never nominated in this category. She started right off with a Supporting actress nomination for The Deer Hunter which was pretty much her first big role in a film. (I don’t think her little role in Julia was enough for awards.)

Now this reminds me of the story where Streep describes being called ugly basically by Dino delaurintiss (in italian) in her audition for King Kong. She responded in Italian to him I’m sorry sarcastically and left!
