First of all, it didn’t get bad reviews. It got mixed reviews. The best gauge, Metacritic, reported 20 favorarable, 24 mixed, only 3 negative, for a consensus mixed score of 55.

Second, I can’t discuss because a few months after seeing the film I remember nothing. It was totally forgettable and mainly bombastic.

Abso-tively not. It was an out and out hatchet job…

A lot of the criticisms were totally valid. I disagreed with many of them, but I can definitely see where they were coming from.

In what parallel universe is 3 negative reviews out of the 47 leading ones a hatchet job?

Sorry, but that is totally delusional.

Honestly, the reviews were better than the film deserved, but the reality is that they were mixed, not negative.

Also, the public rejected the film after the first weekend. It lost 65% its second weekend, was only able to hang on in the top 10 for 5 weeks. And WB/DC Comics then panicked and quickly announced Ben Affeck’s involvement in order to staunch the bleeding.

It got mixed reviews, but the bad opinions are valid. It’s a pretty solid movie up until Kevin Costner starts telling Kent that he should let people die, which is something Superman would never do. The final went on about 20-30 minutes too long and I got mad as hell when Superman killed Zod. Thank God the script for Batman vs Superman is getting rewritten, I wouldn’t want Goyer messing up more comic book characters (Lex Luthor was going to be a thug until the rewrite)

Well, as usual, I dont give a HECK what the reviews said. I didnt read them. I watched this twice and it is what it is. I was more forgiving on second viewing. I dont think there was anything wrong with the acting, although, Cavill was only allowed that one gorgeously sexy smile of his, at the very freaking end.

Will I see the next one? You bet. The critics can do their worst with that one. Hope they enjoy their paychecks……

Haha, I saw it twice too, and I will definitely see the 2nd (if only to witness what Eisenberg does with Lex, which I think will end up being surprisingly great).

Somewhere along the line (the talented Christopher Nolan takes some blame) filmmakers lost sight that comic book adaptations are meant to be fun, not solemn affairs on the level of Greek tragedies. The Marvel films mainly get this. So did the Donner/Lester Superman films with Christopher Reeve. Man of Steel didn’t. Easily the worst of the film adaptations.

I had no problem with Superman killing Zod, but for the exact reason you stated here. Superman wouldn’t just let people die, and when faced with that decision, he choose to not let the innocent people die. They were clearly showing that he wasn’t following his father’s (Costner, not Crowe) advice. I agree that it seemed like a way of just stirring up controversy, and they should’ve just cut it from the script.

My biggest problem was that the action seemed unnecessary (which is weird in a superhero movie), because it was just him having big fistfights with kryptonians and a big metal thing. They stretched that out way too long, when they could have easily taken a cue from Spider-Man and had a minor villain for him to confront either before or simultaneously.

On paper, it could have definitely been much better. It had serious pacing issues, and I think the reviews reflect that well.

No. I got exactly that I thought I was going to get, an exhilirating action film with great acting and great effects. Plus it’s Superman, not Game of Thrones. Cut it some slack, dude.

The personality and arc of Superman just isn’t very conducive to the modern blockbuster. Still, it was a noisy, muddled, pedestrian effort. It was step down from Superman Returns, which itself was mediocre. I think it’s time to let this superhero be. Then again, I’m still shaking my head at this new Spider-man reboot.

I personally thought the movie was fine up until the last fight scene. Completely unnecessary obnoxious action sequences.

I thnk there was so much hype that it got some flack for no reason becuase it didn’t exactly live up to the hype. It was a good movie. Much better than the last two Wolverine ones so I really didn’t get the flack for this film

I agree Vin. Cavill and the team had some big shoes to fill, and the monies they spent were pretty high. Fortunately the film made some decent money globally. So, where was the flak coming from? The critics? Lol. Let THEM make a film.

I’m in for the next one.
