I’ve always asked myself why this movie didn’t achieve awards success.

There are at least 3 fantastic performances in it, imo, by Pepper, Gibson and Elliot.

I know Randall Wallace sux, but was the movie that bad? didn’t it deserve any accolades? What was the award community response back then?

    Thoughts?

Well my opinion is that Wallace can really stink it up as a writer, but I hesitate trashing him as a director,
Funny thing about We Were Soldiers, I wasnt heavily impressed when  I watched it in theatres, but after all this time, I still remember it. Sure I remember the battlefield scenes, but mostly it’s the women and their reactions to the madness that I recall the most; Stowe, Russell.
It did better than respectable numbers @ box office.

I didn’t care much for Stowe’s performance here, I liked her a lot in “12 Monkeys” but honestly saying she didn’t do much for me here.

I recall some high hopes for this film with Wallace and Gibson being involved.
Btw I’ve never really liked Stowe, although I have nothing against her. I liked her 300lb+ self in Stakeout.

Yes I know hehe, that is what made me do this topic, I remembered his previous work and “We Were Soldiers” came to mind. And, it might be a total failure with critics, but everyone I know is pretty excited to see this movie here in Brazil, Lol.

Odd. I assumed everybody around here knows that.
I’ve been following Heaven’s box office. If I want to see it, I’ll have to go by myself. Wouldnt be the first time. But I do like Margo Martindale, and I dont remember seeing Kelly Reilly in anything since Flight.

So why not start a Heaven is For Real Thread?

Never saw this film but my uncle loves it. Saying that he fought in world war 2 and loves these types of movies and especially Mel Gibson.

It’s especially vital  seeing and listening to all the varying reactions to that war……

In fairness to this film, it does try to entertain some notion of even-handedness and humanity.

SORRY, BUT WE’VE SEEN ELMER GANTRY AND THAT RUINED IT FOR US

    No
interest whatsoever in any Mel Gibson movie ever again, except ***100 MILLION DOLLAR IDEA*** if someone were to cast the notorious anti-Semite as a crazed Nazi in some preposterously over-the-top WWII
flick. Talk about casting true to type! I wonder if Tarantino is available to direct?

As for Randall Wallace, I imagine some people may be tempted (by Satan, no doubt) to make a film that,
among other things, posits that Jesus is white (guess Fox News was right about that all along) with sparkling blue eyes and fetching blond
highlights, and likes to ride a horse while surveying his Heavenly estate. Others, though, may find such brazenly exploitative endeavors
to be entirely shameless and reprehensible. But fleecing the flock is a time-honored
American tradition, is it not? Can I get a hallelujah?!

I watched it last night. It was a good movie and definately showed both sides and Gibson was giving some John Wayne vibes with that performance but overall I think it was a good film.
