Ed Harris has received four Academy award nominations without winning. Did he deserve more/less? Did you ever rank him the best?

I agree with all of his nominations except for Apollo 13, a film I dislike as a whole.

    I would have given him:

1983: Nominated – Best Supporting Actor, The Right Stuff
1998: Won – Best Supporting Actor, The Truman Show
2000: Nominated – Best Actor, Pollock
2002: Nominated – Best Supporting Actor, The Hours

Shout out to his work in Jacknife

    Thoughts?

    Nominations:

    Under Fire

    The Right Stuff

    The Abyss

    Sweet Dreams

and perhaps. A History of Violence.

Not sure I’d give him a win yet, but he is sooo chillingly ‘charming’ in Under Fire. After that, I’m happy to see him working continuously.

A History of Violence was definately nomination worthy for him. Same for Pollock. Other than that I didn’t find him oscar worthy.

Geez Ben. I really didnt care for him in The Hours. He was just as bad as Streep, imo. I might have preferred one for Dennis Quaid, or Richard Gere; or even Jude Law. Or how about Sean Astin.

I’m just glad nobody beat Chris Cooper. Imo, his is one of the best Supporting wins ever.

Ah well. I’d say I’ll check Ed out again except, The Hours isnt exactly one of my favorite films to revisit.

Both terrific performances, but the same year!  Though two sides of the same jingoistic coin, I’d guess the Academy would lean toward his John Glenn though he’s so memorable in the other.

Everyone should have won for The Truman Show.
Best film, best director, best screenplay, best actor, best supporting actor, best supporting actress.
One of the rare films I’d give that amount of Oscars.
Of course it didn’t get anything…

I love THE HOURS.. everyone in it..and everything about it..i thought Ed Harris’ 2 amazing scenes with Streep were oscar worthy for sure…He is always good..but in The Hours, he is superb…I also wouldve nominated him for about 6 other films..and his pollack performance is his greatest lead performance..I loved him in Sweet Dreams, Places in the Heart, The Truman Show, Apollo 13..and a few more…
