    I find these threads fun.

Sigourney Weaver is a member of the six-fecta of overdue actresses (Adams, Bening, Close, Moore, Pfeiffer, Weaver).

Did you ever rank her the best?

These are the nominations/wins I would have given her:

1979: Nominated – Best Actress, Alien
1986: Won – Best Actress, Aliens (though I go back and forth between her and Turner)
1988: Nominated – Best Actress, Gorillas in the Mist
1988: Won – Best Supporting Actress, Working Girl
1997: Nominated – Best Supporting Actress, The Ice Storm
with hopes to nominate and award her many more times in the future

So in total, 5 nominations with 1 or 2 wins.
Shout outs to her work in The Year of Living Dangerously and Holes

    Thoughts?

Weaver should have beat (I’m deaf) in 1986.

She was denied nominations in the nineties.

    Dave (1993)  — Supp. Actress
Death and the Maiden (1994) — Best Actress
The Ice Storm (1997) — Supp. Actress
A Map of the World (1999) — Best Actress

Would have given her the win for Aliens. In the context of that year, I wouldn’t have minded seeing her win for Working Girl, but Pfeiffer is my #1 pick there.

She should’ve received nominations for Dave, Death and the Maiden, and The Ice Storm…I’d have to see A Map of the World again.

She was my choice only for Aliens.

Had she been nominated for The Ice Storm, she would be in a tight race with Julianne Moore, Joan Cusack, and the snubbed Debbi Morgan and Sarah Polley.

Let, the river run, let all the dreamers wake the nation

    Come, the new Jerusalem…..

    Love Sigourney in everything.

    Alien

    The Year of Living Dangerously

    Ghost Busters

    Gorillas in the Mist

    Copycat

Snow White: A Tale of Terror (not kidding about her perf in this)

    Avatar

    Plus the films the thread-starter cites;

and one of my favorites, Galaxy Quest.

Love all of her cameos too.

Yes I’m a fan. Want to see what she does in Exodus. There’s not much doubt she’ll make that role her own, despite the overpowering story.

I’d love to see her win an Oscar and soon.

Ps to PaulHan: Avatar 2 Paul. She’s blue now and in a tree, How many actors can say that? Lol

Probably in 86 for Aliens but by a hair over Kathleen Turner.

And I would’ve given her the Oscar in 88 as well. It was a meh category and she was excellent in Working Girl.

    So 2 I guess.

I actually ranked her first for “Aliens” and “Working Girl” and 2nd for “Gorillas…”, only behind Glenn Close. What a shame she never won. Maybe she will.

I don’t know if I would nominate her for that but she was amazing in “Heartbreakers” – very funny and held the movie together. It shows how great comedian she could be given a chance.

So true!! I watched that movie like a bazillion times when it came out (I was 12). Hadn’t watched it for years but just the other day they were airing it and I had so many expectations but I found it to be quite terrible. But Sigourney is truly special in it and not just for her comedic timing.

“I am so not musical!” cracks me up everytime. And the song that ensues.

    Definitely first for Aliens
Deserved both of her 88 noms, probably ranked second for both.

    Should have been nominated for:
    – Death and the Maiden (1994) and won
    – The Ice Storm (1997)
    – A Map of the World (1999)
    – Snow Cake (2006), but it was barely released and no one saw it…

And I wouldn’t have nominated her, but I like all the love her comedy work is getting here. Galaxy Quest is just great, and she’s very, very good in Heartbreakers, The TV Set, Dave and Tadpole

It’s a travesty she never won and an even bigger travesty she lost BSA to Geena Davis for the forgotten flick The Accidental Tourist.

That had to be tough being the first to lose twice in one night and then being completely snubbed in the 90’s.  Maybe Hollywood just doesn’t like her?
