This thought just popped into my head randomly: Are there any directors who have directed Oscar winning performances in all acting categories?

And after a minute of thinking about it I realized that Martin Scorsese has accomplished this feat:

Best Actor: Robert De Niro, Raging Bull
Paul Newman, The Color of Money
Best Actress: Ellen Burstyn, Alice Doesn’t Live Here Anymore
Best Supporting Actor: Joe Pesci, Goodfellas
Best Supporting Actress: Cate Blanchett, The Aviator

I know there are some that are close (Woody Allen, David O. Russell, etc.) But I was wondering if there are any more directors anybody can think of that have done this.

William Wyler, because among the many Oscar winning performances he directed were Greer Garson and Teresa Wright for Lead Actress and Supporting Actress for Mrs. Miniver and Charlton Heston and Hugh Griffith for Lead Actor and Supporting Actor for Ben-Hur.

James L. Brooks didn’t direct Jerry Maguire.

He does have Shirley McLaine as Best Actress winner too.

I think those listed might be the only ones. It’s a shame Fred Zinnemann had 3 categories and missed only Best Actress when he directed Deborah Kerr in “From Here to Eternity” and “The Sundowners”, Audrey Hepburn in “The Nun’s Story” and Jane Fonda in “Julia”.
