Going over the past few years, I have noticed that realistic make up and hair has gone on to win over flashy fantasy make up.
    Dallas Buyers Club
    Les Miserables (over The Hobbit)
The Iron Lady (over Harry Potter)

The Wolfman and Star Trek won in 2010/2009 but then

Curious Case of Benjamin Button (over The Dark Knight and Hellboy 2)
La Vie En Rose (over Pirates of the Caribbean 3)

Before that alot of fantasy won like Pan’s Labryinth, The Lion the Witch and the Woredrobe, and Lord of the Rings but it seems lately especially with hair design in the mix too they go for the more realistic make up. So does that mean Grand Budapest or Foxcatcher have more edge of Guardians?

I agree that they generally go with ones that have more prestige, so Foxcatcher and Grand Budapest could have an advantage. I think Foxcatcher will win this easily though, because so much was made of Carell’s makeup process.

I hope Carell’s nose wins this.

If Tilda Swinton was in more of Grand Budapest then it might’ve been an easy win. I’d predicted Foxcatcher to be snubbed due to the “distracting” element of Carell’s nose, but now it’s in I think it can win over a load of blue and green paint. Lol

Make Up Artist Magazine did some spotlight videos for the nominees where the artists break down all the scenes and how much make up and hair went into them

    The Grand Budapest Hotel
    Guardains of the Galaxy
    Foxcatcher

After watching these videos, I have a feeling Grand Budapest Hotel has the edge.

I don’t understand why. There was nothing special about the makeup or hair. Tilda Swinton (the standout makeup) was barely in the movie. What a waste of a talented actress.

Steve Carell’s transformation is so extreme in Foxcatcher. It deserves the makeup win.

Did you watch the video? They did some extreme things in Budapest. I think all 3 are equally deserving it’s kind of hard to pick who will actually win
