Where do you think she placed out of the five?

Yes. She deserved all her nods.

    78th – Junebug
She was 3rd behind Weisz and Williams.

    81st – Doubt
    3rd behind Cruz and Davis

    83rd – The Fighter
    2nd behind Leo.

    85th – The Master
    3rd behind Hathaway and Field

    86th – American Hustle
    3rd behind Blanchett and Bullock

I agree with Philip on all the placements.

I do not agree she deserved all her nominations. I was disappointed with her work in “American Hustle” and preferred the three other nominated performances from that film. She would not have made my top five hat year.

I actually enjoyed her the most out of the 4 nominees in American Hustle. I would have rank them Adams, Cooper, Lawrence and Bale.

She didn’t deserve the nom for American Hustle but she wasn’t the worst. Her placements are mostly 3rd or 4th which reminds me of Leo’s placements with his nominations before the Revenant.

As much as I despised Lawrence’s school-like performance, I would put Cooper behind her. He was just there with a frizzy fro and a tired accent.

I thought he had a hilarious performance. Probably one of his best, behind Silver Linings, which I would have given him the Oscar if not for DDL.

Yes, she did. She deserved to win for “Junebug” or “The Fighter”. Her winning for any other performance wouldn’t go down well.

Williams should have won for BM and Leo deserved the Oscar.

Her nomination for American Hustle over Emma Thompson’s unbelievable performance was an utter joke but otherwise I’d say she’s been deserving.

I also supported her winning for “Junebug”.

I wouldn’t have given her the Oscar for “Doubt” but thought she was better than the hammy Meryl Streep in that film. She may not have had to reinvent the wheel but there is something to be said for perfectly casting someone totally within her wheelhouse.

She’s in my number 2 slot behind Williams.

She deserves them all and 1000 more. She should have been nominated for Enchanted and Big Eyes and she should have won at least one.

Big Eyes was awful. Her performance was tolerable but nowhere near awards-worthy. Christoph Waltz was actually horrific in that. Take away American Hustle nom and give her the Oscar for Junebug, and I’d be fine.

I’m on the fence about her nomination for Doubt. She deserved her other four without a doubt, and I’d even have voted for her to win twice. Here’s how I’d rank her:

Junebug: #1, though I haven’t seen McDormand in North Country. Quintessential Amy Adams. This role could have been so grating, but her performance is perfectly judged. Strong category though.

Doubt: #4 at best. Well cast, but for some reason her character starts becoming more annoying than her role in Junebug, which I don’t think is intentional. Would have to compare her with Taraji again to decide placement. Viola for the win.

The Fighter: Joined #3 with co-star Melissa Leo. Both equally effective in highly contrasting roles. First time Adams got to really show off her steel over her smiles. Hailee Steinfeld was second best here but I hate the category fraud. I’d vote for Jacki Weaver in Animal Kingdom, a more subtle but infinitely more dangerous monster-mom than Leo.

The Master: With the category as it stands, Helen Hunt gives the richest performance of the five. But the category fraud is so egregious that I couldn’t bring myself to vote for her on a ballot. So of the genuinely supporting performances Amy Adams is best, her character’s true nature indicated but never fully revealed, to disquieting effect. Field plays big in a good way, Hathaway is trying too hard for profundity which the musical and dramatic material doesn’t reach, and Weaver’s role is mostly a collection of reaction shots – perfectly executed reaction shots, to be fair, but Weaver deserved better in a David O. Russell film.

American Hustle: #2 behind Blanchett. MVP of the film, pulse-quickening early scene with Christian Bale on the couch, hilarious fake accent. This lady can murder with a simple line reading. Deserved to be nominated over Emma Thompson (though I’d have preferred her over Meryl Streep that year).
