One that comes to mind, Nicolas Winding Refn/Angelina Jolie.

When was the last time Meryl Streep worked with a great director?  Hmmmm….that’s the thing about her career, she consistently does great work—undeniable—but I don’t know if she has ever been in a truly great, masterpiece-caliber film.  Maybe The Deer Hunter?  I found myself surprised when I go through her films how many of them do not stand out to me.  I would absolutely love to see her give a career-capping performance in a great film, but I’m honestly not sure she seeks that kind of material helmed by significant auteur directors.  So maybe that’s a dream collaboration: Meryl Streep + great director

I’d like to see Jack Nicholson give one last great performance.  So maybe Jack + David O. Russell or Paul Thomas Anderson.

    Todd Solondz/Adam Sandler

Listen, if you really want to be a misanthrope, pair Adam Sandler with David Spade and then let Steven Brill write and direct.

What’s your definition of a great film? She actually has done more then just The Deer Hunter- Julia, Kramer vs. Kramer, Manhattan, Sophie’s Choice, Silkwood, Out of Africa- that’s just up to the 80s.

I would like to see her collaborate with some better directors though.

    Top 10 Most Wanted:

    10. Nicolas Winding Refn directing Sam Rockwell
    Reason:
Being in a Refn movie would allow him to really stretch his acting
muscles and use less dialogue and more body language, thus we could see
something that would top his other perf’s. And the guy is always great
    so thats really saying something.

    9. Behn Zeitlin directing Kerry Washington
    Reason:
I think he would get her to reach the emotional depth that we havent
seen from her yet and very few could deny the perf. A little like
    Quvenzhane.

    8. Pedro Almodovar directing Demian Bichir
    Reason:
I think doing a movie in his native tongue and working with a master
like Almodavar would bring out a “Before night falls” perf in Bichir.
Which would be incredible!  Yes he has already floored me in “A Better
Life” but im greedy so more….more!

    7. Andrew Dominik directing Jennifer Lawrence
    Reason:
Since his films have a dark tone to them, this would force Lawrence to
show us just that, something much much darker and/or edgier. Dominik
would bring out a side of her we havent seen since O.Russell has
her doing romantic/comedy/drama material for the next little while. (yes yes i know Winters Bnes is yes very dark).

    6. Terrence Malick directing Meryl Streep
    Reason:
Shes a supreme actress and one of the very very few who could handle
the incredible degree of difficulty in a Malick movie. I’d also be great
to see her use alot of body language to convery her role in what i
image would be another powerful Malick film.

    5. Kathryn Bigelow directing Javier Bardem
    Reason:
Bigelow’s unapologetic and/or unflintching direction would work so well
with Bardem in an evil role . I could totally see Bigelow directing
    Bardem to oscar no.2.

    4. Jeff Nichols directing Tilda Swinton
    Reason:
She is one of the few who can handle the craziness in a Nichols movie. I
could see the turn by Swinton garnering mass acclaim but probably
wouldn’t be academy friendly enough to get a nomination, but who cares.

    3. Roman Polanski directing Angelina Jolie
    Reason:
Have always wondered by she hasnt played more euopean women when she so
looks it. Image The Reader but actually done really well this time and
Angie digging so deep with impeccable direction from Polanski. This would be a killer duo.

    2. Paul Thomas Anderson directing Jennifer Connelly & John Hawkes
    Reason:
After what Connelly did in “requiem” and what Hawkes did in “martha”. I
think the two of them would destroy a PTA movie. Call me crazy but i
TRULLY believe Hawkes has a “There will be blood” perf in him. And
Connelly would be able to do what Amy Adams couldn’t do imo. At her peak
    shes utterly stunning to watch.

    1. Ang Lee directing Quvenzhane Wallis
    Reason
    :
A reason this pair would work so well is that Lee doesnt have a
signature style. He is always changing. Plus Lee seems to be able to
bring out incredible perfs from actors who have little to no experience,
think (Zhang Ziyi & Suraj Sharma). So why not work with a gifted
child star? Imo under Ang’s wing Wallis could help child actors to be
    taken more seriously.

Zhang Yiyi was not an inexperienced actress by the time she did Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon. She had the most memorable role in Zhang Yimou’s The Road Home (and she’s very good in it).

LOL, but could you imagine Sandler and/or Ben Stiller working with Solondz in his prime. Happiness Solondz.   That would be one crazy movie to say the least. Sandler as a psycopath murder by night, but stay at home dad by the day, something bizarre like that…
