February 13, 2016 at 9:34 am #216731Since the Oscars don’t want to ever nominate an East Asian as a lead, due to racism, I went back and found all the ones Bafta and HFPA found acceptable enough.
Though it’s a bit pathetic that half of them are between 56-61. Most of the rest star Zhang Ziyi, who’s obviously amazing and the only actor under 70 with 3 Bafta noms but no Oscar noms.Anyway…which is the best?

February 13, 2016 at 11:14 am #216737It’s truly shameful that no Asian actor has ever received a lead Oscar nomination. And how many Asians have been nominated/won in supporting? Umeki? Wantanabe? Ngor? Anyone else?
Darrin!
Nope. Not as actors. Hailee Steinfeld (Philipino) was the last one who had a shot.

It’ll be great to see her in the sequel two weeks from now on Netflix. If it somehow lives up to the original, I hope Netflix (and Weinstein, who is a producer) will campaign for her.
