Quickly after coming out, Ellen Page has attached herself to a film titled “Freeheld” in which she will play one half of a lesbian couple. The other half will be played by Julianne Moore, which is admittedly a little strange as Moore is old enough to be Page’s mother. Zach Galifianakis also stars.

The film will tell the true story of the late Laurel Hester (Moore),
a New Jersey police detective whose world was shattered when she became
terminally ill and government officials prevented her from assigning
her pension benefits to her domestic partner, Stacie Andree (Page).

The same story was chronicled in the documentary short “Freeheld” which won the Oscar for Best Documentary Short in 2007, the same year Page was nominated for “Juno.”

Not entirely a stretch for Moore.  She was believable in the film “Chloe” a few years back, with Amanda Seyfreid and Liam Neeson, as someone who falls in lust with the woman she hires to tempt her husband.

But with the unexpected recent news about Page, it should be very interesting to see her take on the part of one half of a lesbian couple.

    Most important details:

Peter Sollett (Raising Victor Vargas, Nick & Norah’s Infinite Playlist) will direct from a screenplay by Ron Nyswaner (Philadelphia, The Painted Veil).

Promising project with an impressive cast and good director. I’ve been a fan of both of Solletts films, especially his debut.

Good for Page, no so good for Moore. Julianne played roles like this before in “Chloe” and “The Kids Are All Right” – I don’t get why is she repeating her role once again. She really needs a good director to make her a “Far from Heaven” type of movie again, because she’s everywhere now, but stopped impress me with her performances lately.

Don Jon and now this: I guess Julianne Moore is all about being the older woman in the couple.

Julianne Moore continues to take incredible risks with her role choices, signed on to play a psychotic actress in a Cronenberg film, a university professor with Alzheimers and now  much-older lesbian lover to a young girl who has revitalized herself with gay audiences with her recent coming-out speech. This is in addition to the recent risks she took as a sex-driven woman of a certain age in Don Jon, evil religious-obsessed mother in Carrie and a lesbian woman who cheats on her lover in The Kids Are All Right.

This fantastic, exemplary actress will be an Oscar winner by 2016, I am willing to bet.

I don’t like it when a 55 year old actor is in a movie with a 25 year old actress and the script acts like it’s totally normal, and I am not going to like it just as much if it happens with two actresses, that’s all this makes me think

Julianne Moore and Ellen Page;will be interesting to see how their chemistry flows. Especially since I just saw Carrie where she played the mother and Page looks no older than Chloe Moretz, can i buy them as lovers? I think they can pull it off cause Ellen can certain has outperformed her youthful looks when given the chance. Saw Moore in Don Jon and really liked her characters counterbalance to Scarlett.

Very pleased to see Ellen Page getting back in the spotlight. Wasn’t surprised one bit with her coming out, but I am proud nonetheless. Her sexuality doesn’t define her, I just want to see her get back into the limelight as she was in 2007 and 2010.

Now Julianne…this is her second film of her playing a character of the LGBT community…Is there something she’s trying to tell us?

Pretty sure Page was attached to this project around the time when she got her first nomination six years ago and it’s been in development hell ever since.

Are actors only allowed to play gay/bi-sexual/bi-curious two times in their career? The biggest connection with these roles, Far From Heaven included, is playing a dejected wife/spouse. That’s kinda redundant I suppose.

I’m not certain about this coupling. But we’ll see.

How is she repeating herself? Her performances in “Chloe” and “The Kids Are All Right” are completly different, and the description of this film is also new. It sounds as if you think that because these characters are homosexual, they’re the same.
